| The Birthday Massacre – To Die For Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Alright, I see two possible interpretations of this. (1) The song is about the singer's first love. (2) The song is about a relationship that ends in the death of the person about whom the song was written. I could go through the song line-by-line, but that would take forever, so I won't. But that's how I see it. |

| Hank Green – This Isn't Hogwarts Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This song is exactly what every American public school student thinks every single school day of our miserable lives. Or at least, all the Harry Potter fans. The non-HP fans think something similar, just without the Hogwarts references. | |
| The Birthday Massacre – I Think We're Alone Now Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Am I the only one who noticed that they changed some words and made it sound kind of like a song about a zombie song or one about killing someone? They don't say: "And then you put your arms around me And we tumble to the ground And then you say I think we're alone now There doesn't seem to be anyone around I think we're alone now The beating of our hearts is the only sound Look at the way We gotta hide what we're doing" They say: "And then *I* put *my* arms around *you* And *you* tumble to the ground And then *I* say I think we're alone now There doesn't seem to be anyone around I think we're alone now The beating of *your* heart is the only sound Look at the way *I* gotta hide what *I'm* doing" The subtle changes in lyrics can change the meaning quite a bit, if you think about it. Only the other person tumbles to the ground, apparently the singer remains standing. Also, only the other person's heart is beating, because the singer states very clearly that the other person's heartbeat is the only sound, and if the singer's heart isn't also making a sound, then it isn't beating. Only the singer is doing something worth hiding, it isn't mutual. I'm surprised no one noticed the changes... |

| Vanessa Carlton – Last Fall Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I've always thought that it was "And I unfold these hidden wings," not "Dying for these hidden ways." That would also make more sense, in context, as she proceeds to talk about soaring. I could be completely wrong, but that seems to make more sense. | |
| The Birthday Massacre – Remember Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This song has always seemed like it was about someone who's just run away from home but only told one person that they were leaving. It's safe to say I'm lonely now A place called home is just a memory away (This is him or her just after they leave. They had to leave to get away from something that they've done, but they don't feel safe where they are now. But they know that all they have to do is think about home to feel safe again) I know I've done this all before A thousand silent voices begging me to stay (It's not the first time they've run away from home, and everything is telling him or her to go back, but they know that they can't) Apologies all left unsaid Secrets better left unspoken Dreams are slowly put to bed Rumors stirred and reawoken (This is about how things were when they left. They had people they needed to apologize to, they had told secrets that they wished they'd kept, they gave up on their dreams, and old rumours came back to haunt them) If I try to get away How long until I'm free And if I don't come back here Will you remember me? (This is them talking to the one person they told. They're asking how far away they'd have to go to truly be free of the town where their past haunts them, and asking the person if they'll remember them if they never come back) It's safe to say I'm nothing now It's all so quiet but I can't forget the sound A thousand voices call my name A thousand hands that pull me back down to the ground (This is after they've been gone for a while. Even though no one here knows about their past, it still haunts them, and every time they feel like they're finally free of said past, a voice in the back of their mind reminds them of it, again) I turn away from what you are Denying all that you have given I find a place that's safe and far In time all will be forgiven (They try to forget about the place where they used to be, turning away from everything and everyone there, even the person who they cared about enough to tell that they were leaving. They leave the place they are, again, feeling like it's too close to their old town, and find a place that's even further away, in hopes that the physical distance will somehow erase the past they've been running from. They feel like the people who they didn't apologize to before leaving still hold grudges) |

| The Birthday Massacre – Horror Show Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I think it's about two groups of people who were once friends, but one group becomes popular and the other group doesn't, so they start hating each other "They're getting ugly They're a horror show" (This is how both groups see the other, as ugly in body or spirit, and as freaks in one way or another.) "And now we're laughing Because they'll never know That they have everything We give them all of our own" (unpopular group thinking about the popular group.) "And they tell us they're sick and they're all alone" (popular thinking about the unpopular.) "They make fools of us together but we always think of them All their laughing and their talking and their wasting of our time" (unpopular about popular.) "And it always hurts to see them now that everything is different We don't like to see their eyes 'cause they will never look the same" (popular, who secretly want to be friends with the unpopular group again, and who are sad that they've made fun of and hurt them, thinking about unpopular.) "They shut the door We fell far behind We try forgivenes But they cross the line And now the moment has passed And we can't rewind We are dead long before we run out of time" (this is about the situation which caused the two groups to not be friends anymore. One or both of the groups did something to wrong the other group, and at first they tried to forgive each other and get over it, but it happened again, and it kept happening again, so both groups gave up, and now it's too late, and it kills them inside that they will never be friends again. |

I'm normally pretty bad at song interpretation (I'm usually WAY off), but somehow, this makes me think it might be about going on tour. Wait dear The time is getting late here I'm all washed up And graced with faint applause Dressed in a cheap facade I'm looking for a place I'll never see again It's getting late, almost time to start another show, they're all dressed up and in costumes that are part of their band's image and doesn't reflect their personalities much at all, and the audience is clapping for them. They're never going to see this place or any of the people here again, because they're just here for tonight. A night turns to a day A street I've never walked on I was never here I'm just a faint reflection The day turns to a month A second of affection I was never here I'm just a faint reflection The next day, they're back in the tour bus, driving down a road that they have no connection to at all, and they don't feel like they were ever really in the town, because the only part of them that anybody there knows is the part that they reveal on stage, which is a mere reflection of their real selves. The days start to run together, and they see someone they really do know (lover, close friend, family, etc.), but they don't get to stay with them for very long. Faking There's nothing here worth taking Just my reflection fading on the wall Not the fairest one of all I'm looking for a place I'll never see again. They're just pretending to be the people that others are seeing them as, and there's nothing there that they feel like is worth remembering. All they feel they've taken (and left) are memories that pale in comparison to others ("not the fairest one of all"). Like I said, I'm normally pretty bad at this, so I could be completely wrong. That's just what I got from it. |
