This is one of my favorite songs from Edwin. This whole CD was pretty rocking, (Lost in America), which is unusual for Edwin, but I think it worked great, and this song is no exception! A lot of the the hard rock influence came from Pete Riley I'm sure. This song is of course about Mark David Chapman and his desire to gun-down John Lennon in December of 1980. Lennon's nickname was "the Walrus", he wrote the song "Happiness is a Warm Gun" for the Beatles White album, "Give Peace a Chance" was an anti-war anthem written by Lennon in 1969, and he was shot outside of his apartment building, the "Dakota building". The rest of the lyrics mostly deal with Chapman's "bitter and twisted" mindset, because he shot Lennon for no good reason except that he was mentally deranged. |

Bitter and Twisted Born killer, bitter and twisted Taking it out on your mother and sister White Lie, I’ve been a bad boy Does anyone know the way out of the freak-show Kill-joy, Johnny-come-lately He’s taking my fame, driving me crazy Child star, messing with fire Gun’s in my hand and I’m walking the wire Chorus Could it be I’m not worth saving Do you see any redemption for my soul I believe I can make it When the darkness comes down on me Outside Dakota Building The walrus cried out but no one was listening He said happiness is a warm gun Give peace a chance, it will work in the long run (chorus) It’s so wasteful And distasteful What can we destroy (chorus) |
