Alkaline Trio – Kick Rocks Lyrics 15 years ago
This song doesn't seem to be as much about a relationship as just getting older in life. 'Take these sticks and stones' meaning the cruel stuff kids say and 'apply what you have learned'. The slapped in the face and spilled my beer part is a relationship reference, but I think just a note about relationships as we grow up.
Then the chorus says 'drink from the hour glass' meaning that time is running out maybe? And to me, the 'watch from the window upstairs while they all kick rocks' part sounds like an older man watching kids having fun and playing games that he has out grown.
Then it keeps going with all the stuff kids do, pissing on a gas station wall for example...and how they didn't care about anything (what's a law, what's a fire, what's a river...we jumped them all). But now he can't do it anymore because his legs got tired and his teeth got long...both references to aging...(long in the tooth).
The part about not letting you in to seems like another reference, like the kids don't want you around type of thing....again, out growing things. And I do think that relationships are part of what gets out grown.

Yes, no?
