| Lady GaGa – Judas Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I think the stanzas are cut up in different perspectives from Jesus, Judas, and Gaga (her making a connection between the relationship between Jesus and Judas to a relationship between her and someone else). For example: "When he calls to me I am ready I wash his feet with my hair if he needs Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain Even after three times he betrays me" [Jesus] "I'll bring him down Bring him down, down A king with no crown King with no crown" [Judas] "I'm just a holy fool Oh baby, he's so cruel But I'm still in love with Judas, baby" [Gaga] This is how I interpret the song.. I think this song is battling the contradiction that the man who helped lead Jesus to his crucifixion was still loved completely by him.. a sinner forgiven... the whole purpose of Christ's death. As a Christian, I have often heard other Christians say that Judas clearly went to Hell for what he did. But maybe it's not so obvious... I mean, are we any better than Judas? Didn't Christ die for him, too? This song is not an answer or a testimony... it's a struggling (and honest) attempt to make sense of our humanity - how we see past the flaws in other people when we love them; how Christ loved Judas (and us) despite the betrayal. It's a painful, slaying surrender - in my opinion. |

| It seems like Victoria is a recurring name in Sufjan's songs. Maybe I'm just jealous. | |
