Starfucker – Pop Song Lyrics 11 years ago
when i hear this i think of a stalker outside some girls window and plotting what he's going to do with her. obviously jealous, "you could have so much more". Seems like he's mocking her too. he says she keeps a baseball bat by her bed, maybe he's tried something before haha.

just a thought, you guys can try to decipher whatever from it but it seems too straightforward.

Portugal. The Man – Sleep Forever Lyrics 12 years ago
all religion is is just believing in something to make you fear death less. what he's saying in the song is that death is just a natural part of life, and while it sucks that everything living has to die, it's also a good thing because it creates new opportunities for younger, brighter, stronger things.

he's saying he just wants to be like all the great people who came before him, live up to their expectations and make them proud so when he's old he can be happy with his life, and have his children want to do the same thing he did. that's the best thing to believe in, not some religion.

this part says it best

Just like our mothers
Who gave us our homes
We'll be just like our fathers
And go out on our own
'Cause we are the colors
In all that you see
We'll be just like our brothers
And take to the streets

Dispatch – Flying Horses Lyrics 12 years ago
It's not just about the carousal. It's about growing up and wanting to relive your childhood, and the innocence of being a kid. The ring being rusty shows that it's been there for a while. He's revisiting it as an adult now and re-living one of his fondest memories as a child.

Love this song.

The Killers – Tranquilize Lyrics 13 years ago
Something I wanted to add to "A hurried high from pestilence pills and pride,
It's a shame, we could have gone sailing"

I think this suggests that he hasn't taken the drug yet. He gets his high from the "pride" he gets.

Also the "I can hear the children playing" could also mean he sees the children of today, and thinks to himself that they will all be exposed to the harsher life as they get older. He might wish he could go back to his childhood where he didn't have a care in the world, and he could remake the decisions he made in his life that he regrets.

The Killers – Tranquilize Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't usually post my shit here but this is such a powerful song.. Anyways I'll try not to bore you with my interpretation.

This song could be about numerous things as explained in the comments before me. But I see it as a story of a drug dealer/addict. Here's why:

"Time it tells living in my home town,
Wedding bells they begin easy"
The person lives in a close community where everyone seems knows each other pretty well, he meets a girl and marries her.

"Live it down, baby don't talk that much,
Baby knows, but baby don't tease me"
His girlfriend/wife knows of some past troubles he has had with drugs, and doesn't say anything about it. She knows what's going on.

"In the park we could go walking,
Drowned in the dark or we could go sailing
On the sea"
The guy is being given an option to sell drugs by "walking in the park in the dark" or to not take any chances with them, and just "go sailing", which of course doesn't actually literally mean sailing. it could mean anything. Just to do anything that's not related with drugs.

"Always here, always on time
Close call, was it love or was it just easy"
He chooses to do/sell drugs, and he's always on time. So, he's pretty good at it. he doesn't know if he likes it, or if he's just doing it for the money.

"Money talks when people need shoes and socks,
Steady boys, I'm thinking she needs me"
He's selling because he needs money to afford the necessary things in life. The "I'm thinking she needs me" could mean someone who the guy is going to sell to.

"I was just sipping on something sweet
I don't need political process"
He's making good money off it, and decides he doesn't need to learn anything else or go to school. He doesn't need that political process, he thinks it's a waste of time when he could be making more money just selling drugs.

"I got this feeling that they're gonna break down the door
I got this feeling they they're gonna come back for more"
Cops breaking down his door and arresting him, and the clients he sells to coming back for more. He's afraid, pretty much.

"See I was thinking that I lost my mind
But it's been getting to me all this time
And it don't stop dragging me down"
Pretty self explanatory. It clearly bothers him that he's doing this.

"Silently reflection turns my world to stone"
My favorite line of the whole song. Don't think reflection as in a mirror, think of it as reflecting on your life and decisions. He sees that he has done wrong, and it "turns his world to stone", or upsets him.

"Patiently correction leaves us all alone"
He thinks he can stop by correcting himself.

"And sometimes I'm a travel man
But tonight this engine's failing"
When he sings this part, it's like the best thing ever... But it could mean he's usually a man of business, but he's considering quitting the job since he knows it's bad.

"I still hear the children playing"
He's reflecting back to his childhood when he had no concern for drugs, and had had dreams like every other kid. How innocent he was, how he would have never thought that he would grow up to be a dealer.

"Acid rain, when Abel looked up at Cain
We began the weeping and wailing"
Abel and Cain is a biblical reference. Cain and Abel were the sons of Adam and Eve. Cain being older. Cain was the first murderer. He murdered his younger brother Abel. So this line could be like, he's Abel, and Cain is the business he's in. It's killing him. Not actually killing him physically, but more emotionally. This line is tricky.

"A hurried high from pestilence pills and pride,
It's a shame, we could have gone sailing"
It's a shame, they could have avoided the whole situation. That one decision he had made decided the rest of his life for him.

"But heaven knows,
Heaven knows everything
Tranquilize"
I think this line isn't so much about what Heaven knows.. It's more about what we as humans don't know. We hardly know anything, there's always new information to know. Knowing this, and being upset about his past decisions as a drug dealer, he takes his own drug. Hence the "Tranquilize"

"Cause I don't care where you've been
And I don't care what you've seen
We're the ones who still believe
And we're looking for a page
In that lifeless book of hope
Where a dream might help you cope
With the Bushes and the bombs
Uh huh, Tranquilized"
The man at an older age. He's seen it all, he's been everywhere. He still believes, he still has hope that everything can turn out better. In a world where there's so much bad stuff happening constantly, we can always look for hope. Keep your head up, there's always tomorrow.

Once again this is just one look at the song. I'm sure there's like 10 other meanings that can be taken out of it. That's why I love this song so much.. I bet in a few days I'll come up with another meaning for this song that's completely unrelated to this one. That's how music should be, that's why I love it so much.

Does anyone else hear "Far away from the milky teat, what's the use?" Idk if I'm just crazy or not, but it would maybe make sense, seeing as the next line is about a Mechanical Sacrificial Calf. Calf being a baby cow, cows have milky teats, ect.. Just a thought.

Modest Mouse – Breakthrough Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't usually think too many Modest Mouse songs are about drugs, but this one sounds like it is to me. In my opinion, Cthorson pretty much nailed it for that first verse. For the second verse, imagine you're sitting in your room at 2:30 AM, and you're high on whatever drug, and you open your window and feel that cool air on your face. It's almost like a wake-up call I guess. And the whole "Breakthrough" concept, being the breakthrough from soberness to being on a drug. Having done some myself I realize what he's saying I guess, if you haven't then you might just think I'm crazy. But whatever, doesn't bother me.

Modest Mouse – Nothing New Lyrics 14 years ago
Anyone who says they sold out clearly doesn't understand Modest Mouse. Sure, their songs sound nicer and more clean-cut on Good News, The Moon and Antartica, and We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, but if you actually listen to the lyrics you can clearly see that their lyrics are still fantastic. Issac Brock said in an interview that he was glad with the way that the new records came out, and he doesn't care what the fans say about it because he makes his music to please himself. If he likes it the way it sounds than you, as fans, should like the way it sounds. Don't get me wrong I love their old albums. First one I ever heard was Sad Sappy Sucker. But their new ones are just as good as their old ones. And good for them, they're making money. Is it really so bad that they're attracting new fans and earning more money? That's what most bands strive for.

Yeah, that's completely wrong. Seabait is right.

"I wish I could hit upon a pleasant track of thought, a track indirectly reflecting credit upon myself, for those are the pleasantest thoughts, and very frequent even in the minds of modest mouse-coloured people, who believe genuinely that they dislike to hear their own praises."

MGMT – 4th Dimensional Transition Lyrics 14 years ago
What I think this song is about is someone who has died and become a ghost.

For example: "I feel your racing heart. My liquid silver arms extended. These waves aren't far apart. Black gold in claw foot tubs unchanging." This could be like, the machine talking to a patient in a hospital. Racing heart, and waves that aren't far apart could mean that their heart is speeding up and is showing on that graph thing that beeps and monitors heart rate, thus indicating someone dieing. Liquid silver arms could possibly be the IVs, wires, ECT That are all attached to the person, trying to keep him/her alive.

"I am fire, where's my form? Whisper crimson I intrude. There's light beneath your eyes. New overtones in view, endless form, endless time." This could be like, the person has died and became a ghost. He is asking where his form is, because now that he is a ghost he can walk through shit, and stuff like that. There's light beneath your eyes shows the light fading from someone's eyes, which shows the life being taken out of the body, or something. Endless form, endless time clearly shows that they can now do whatever they want, forever.

"If what they say is true, you are a shadow in the 4th dimension... ...The love that every person want to be." This verse is like, someone meeting the ghost. (Shadow in the 4th dimension = ghost, in my opinion. I have my reasons as to why I think this but I don't feel like typing them all out. I'll just stick to my interpretation.) "To float away with you... ...Ceilings lifted, walls were gone." This part shows the characteristics of ghosts. Floating, drifting, walking through walls, ect. And the ghost did this with someone alive, who he loves.

The first part of the 3rd verse could be in the perspective of the previousaly mentioned person who the ghost is in love with. The second part of it could be in the point ov view of the ghost. It shows the ghost leaving the person, or in other words "seeing the light" and walking into it. The thing about this that really made me think that this was in fact about ghosts is the line "No more mirrors, woolen bag, and now I'm gone." This is because, if you didn't know, mirrors are a way that ghosts communicate with people. (Like the Bloody Mary myth, ect.) So no more mirrors means no more dealing with the human race. And he is gone; walked into the light.

This is just my translation of it, I'm sure it's wrong in many aspects... but hopefully if you believe it's not about this, then this will at least spark your imangination and get you thinking about what it could be about.

Seems to me that it is about people being stupid, and making bad decisions about their lives. like a9entsmith said with the whole adam and eve thing.
