Katie Herzig – Songbird Lyrics 14 years ago
This is the new Katie Herzig song I've got on repeat as of late.

My favorite lines: "If love is anywhere / Mine still belongs with you / But I'm holding it in my hand"
I think she's saying that the only love there is for her is her love for him, but either she still hasn't told him she loves him, or he doesn't know she loves him, or he doesn't accept her love - she's still "holding it." Her love belongs to him, but for some reason, he doesn't have it.

I think this interpretation connects pretty well with the next lines (which I also really like): "She lays her head/ Upon your shoulder / But all I see is the way that you hold her" There's such a sad kind of pang in the way she notices the person she love love someone else, you know?

The whole bird metaphor seems to suggest looking in on a relationship. And the "I can't fly away" is another way of saying she can't get over him or stop loving him - even if she flies all around the world.

It's just beautiful - and I love how there are all these little hitches in her voice, it makes the song all the more lovely, I think.
