i htink the song is about being pushed to your limits. taylor has often mentioned being overworked in interviews, saying how she was forced into the industry at a young age and was constantly working from then on. the song sounds to me like its about a girl whos being pushed beyond what she can actually do. shes been awake forever and has been waiting for the day to break free. she talks to the people who've wronged her and says they keep forcing her to fail by falling on her head. she's a zombie because like a zombie she can move and talk and appear alive but she is dead inside and shes just walking aimlessly through time. |

i think its about a girl (like most of you all said) in an abusive relationship where shes unhappy in some ways with him but yet still loves him. shes ready to leave him because shes tired of all the stuff he puts her through. but she's too numb to feel that pain in that moment and doesnt have the strength to put up withthe fight. so she says shell stay and pretend for just tonight that everything is ok and that they are happy. but should she eventually be fed up with him its all because of what he did. and then she says in the end that she wont leave yet and shell lie and how hell believe that shes fine or at least will pretend to. but then she says that BECAUSE she always says "just tonight" shell forget everything she "will see" that its actually HER fault for not leaving and shes unhappy all because of her own decisions to stay in the unhealthy relationship |

i saw somewhere a interview she gave about this song. she said soemthing about (the video at least) being about jesus and the last supper and mary magdalene. in the music video theyre all sitting at a dining table and the setting does seem similar to the last supper image. im not sure though about how it fully would relate to the lyrics but she said it so..idk |

personally i think everyone is taking the meaning of this song way too literally with the whole vampires and werewolves thing. yes it sounds like it could relate to the twilight story if you think about it but i for some reason doubt that twilight was on taylors mind when she wrote this. i think its more about the forbidden love thing and maybe even corrupting the curious innocent girl. she sounds like shes telling the guy who shes singing to that she wants him to teach everything shes never experienced by corrupting her or bringing her over to the dark side. maybe hes this guy she wants and because hes so different shell never be "good" enough for him?
its hard to explain what i mean. i feel that i can relate. its like innocent girl likes bad boy and she wants to be bad for him so she tries to say how shes up for trying all those bad things. but for some reason she still thinks shell never be enough for him and the thought makes her wanna die |
