| TREXOR, If you are a fan of a band, you appreciate everything they release, whether you like it or not. If you believe a song by Tool is the 'crappiest song you have ever heard', Your obviously not a real fan. | |

| Hey cowboy, I dont think anyone was asking Maynard to rewrite the song, I believe the drunk comment was used to simplify the lyrics for people who were digging to deep. I do agree that this is a very powerful song, and the song is one of my favorites. | |

"Great to see a song evoke some many emotions and thoughts on what the meaning could be, that is what makes a good song great..." BEAUTIFULLY SAID. |

That was a great interpretation. It opened my eyes. I always looked at it as he is with a woman who wants the relationship, and the person speaking is over it. The "gap" is the relationship, he does not want to fall back into it. The whole time he is basically becoming distant from the girl and she keeps pulling on him And I'm slipping back into the gap again I feel alive when you touch me... I feel alive when you hold me... ...down Slipping back into you I am somewhere I dont wanna be, yeah Put me somewhere I dont wanna be Push me somewhere I dont wanna be Seeing someplace I don't wanna see Never wanna see that place again... - he loves the touch of the woman and is basking in the feeling, at the end of that line he realizes shes holding him down, it makes him feel alive because its almost the only emotion he's felt recently. Then he slips back into her, and realizes it and never wants to do that again. The whole song is about him wanting to sever emotional ties with a woman, the infant being his son but when he sees the child, he sees himself and also pieces of her and will not take his anger out on the baby, it's an emotional roller coaster the whole time between him and her but he truly knows what he wants, he does not want to hurt her (not necessarily physically), but at the end realizes he has no choice. And he lets her have it. I just went through exactly what I wrote. This song helped me tremendously. I love your interpretation, I don't believe there is a 'right' interpretation to any song, thats the beauty of it, but this is how I see it and what it means to me. |

I believe exactly the same... This song was very helpful to me when I was going through a difficult time in a relationship. A groan of tedium escapes me, startling the fearful, is this a Test? It has to be, otherwise I can't go on Draining patience, drain vitality, this paranoid, paralyzed vampire act's a little Old - Going through the same bullshit day after day in a bad relationship, kind of being in denial of the whole situation. The vampire is the relationship, sucking the life out of you. But I'm still right here, givin' blood, keepin' faith and I'm still right here But I'm still right here, givin' blood, keepin' faith and I'm still right here Wait it out Gonna wait it out Gonna wait it out (Be patient) - Keeping faith. It's as simple as that. And waiting it out... believing it will pass. Maybe even denial of sorts. If there were no rewards to reap No loving embrace to see me through This tedious path I've chosen here I certainly would've walked away By now Gonna wait it out - Even though there is a struggle in the relationship, there are still good times. The tedium is the back and forth of the emotions. The rest of the lyrics if you go by what I have written, are all similar. Like I said, I'm not telling you what he means, I am simply showing you there are many ways to hear and absorb MJK's lyrics. Don't be worried so much about the universal meaning... know what they mean to you. That's the beauty of music and poetry. Everyone hears lyrics and instruments different. Like I said, that's the beauty. |
