I absolutely adore this song but I think the lyrics sound better if, instead of "He burns my skin," it was "Heat burns my skin"... I dunno :) |

When I hear this song, I think of a couple--of course, I picture my boyfriend and I--realizing how terrible this world is, and realizing that their significant other is their only hope in this world, despite all the troubles there are surrounding them. It's as if the pair is saying "If there's any one person you can still trust in this world, it's me..." That's why I love this song so much <3 |

I always imagine the setting of an airport for this song, mainly because of the background noise at the beginning and end. Plus, the way "But just for tonight" sounds as if it's on an airport intercom helps this theory. This song gives me the image of a man sitting on a bench in an airport, watching the people go by and thinking about whether or not they want to love again... see all those people on the ground wasting time try to hold it all inside (but just for tonight) on top of the world sitting here wishing the things i've become.. but something is missing maybe i.. what do i know? (He's thinking about his past love, trying to get over the heartbreak inside him. He became a loner after being so shattered, yet he still wants to feel love again. Take the lines "Maybe I...what do I know?" as another way of saying "Maybe I want love...but what do I know?" He's still bitter about heartbreak, so he's unsure if he wants to love again) and now it seems that i have found nothing at all wanna hear your voice out loud slow it down, slow it down (Even after pondering whether or not he wants to love again, he's unsure...But he still wants to hear his past lover's voice again) without it all, i'm choking on nothing it's clear in my head, and i'm screaming for something knowing nothing is better than knowing it all on my own.. (Without love, he's drowning in his empty emotions. He now knows that he wants love, but he can't bring himself to admit it. "Knowing nothing is better than knowing it all" means he'd rather not know love again, in fear of heartbreak, and he considers not feeling broken again as a better option than possibly being healed from loving someone who will care for him. He realizes that, since this is the path he's chosen, he's on his own...) At this point in the song, he's screaming inside his head, in pain that he has chosen to never love again. His point is repeated stronger, that he cannot love...And thus he leaves the airport, now knowing his bitter decisions. What do you guys think of that? XD |
