Lady GaGa – Monster Lyrics 7 months ago
I wrote a story a bit like how this song sounds, unintentionally. It's a paranormal romance, but as the paranormal character is very amoral, he's ready to make advances that she doesn't necessarily want in her right mind by getting her drunk or slipping her an aphrodisiac, or making immoral deals to get what he wants. It's outlined that it's unhealthy and his character can get very clingy, but the girl doesn't have any idea how to leave him. She could get rid of him to a point, but he'd still be around, just less effective and angry that she tried.

Katy Perry – Mannequin Lyrics 9 months ago
Okay, so we all know the lyrics are wrong. But I want to talk about it in terms of a fanfic I've been reading.

There's actually two I've read, "An Exquisite Pain" and "Dancing With Time". In the first one, an ordinary (for her world) fifteen-year-old girl accidentally ends up in the past and the device that took her back is broken (time-travel does happen in her world). She ends up as a transfer student at her boarding school, which still exists, and even becomes a Prefect, due to the uniform being totally the same and her prefect badge being on. But she also ends up working with the other prefect in her year, a boy whose name she recognizes, but she's not sure where from. At first, he annoys her because all the teachers seem to love her, and one of her new friends swoons over his good looks, and although he hangs out with people, he seems strangely detached from everyone, including this girl. However, as they get to know each other, she becomes suspicious of him, becomes interested, and wants to break him down. Her love of learning seems to translate to wanting to figure him out, and that leads to her wanting to get closer to him. Then, she discovers that he's afflicted with a serious illness that affects him both physically and mentally, and during one of his episodes, he lets slip the person he plans to be, and the girl remembers that in her time, he died when she was tiny, but is known as one of the most dangerous, most powerful warmongerers of all time. And yet she's already starting to fall for the fifteen-year-old version of him.

So why does this song suit this story? Because our male lead seems to always be masking, never showing his true self, and is almost heartless because he was never shown love himself. His mother died giving birth to him and his father didn't want him or his mother. The protagonist is a learner, "usually the queen of figuring out" and no matter what she says, she never seems to get any further because he won't show any emotion. When he finally does, it's because he's taken a medicine that lowers his inhibitions, and even then, he only says "I care about you more than I could have ever imagined caring about anyone", which is still not love. Our poor girl feels like she "keeps knocking on wood, hoping there's a real boy inside", and while he stays with her, there's very few moments when he actually shows any vulnerability to her, and sometimes he's just manipulating her. He also never says "I love you", no matter how many times she says it, and she knows that she can't "put *him* back together again", and is "such a fool" for falling for him. He also seems to always doubt her love is unconditional, too, and she often wants him to "feel that my love is real".

Emilie Autumn – Liar Lyrics 2 years ago
I was reading this story called "Devil and Redeemer". It was an alternate ending to a movie involving a teenage couple - a girl who was intelligent, smart and snarky and a boy who she didn't realize until later was twisted and bloodthirsty, and totally obsessed with her.

The story had them run away together after he killed their whole school in one fell swoop. But the reason it reminded me of this song was because it was a classic abusive relationship. He could go from burning her hand because she tried to argue with him to singing along with the radio and making her laugh. Feels like when he hurts her, the bridge "Are you suffering" and the line about "I'm hurting you for your own good" was what he was thinking. And even in the canon story, there's lines that say things like "I'd trade my life for yours" repeated, like "I'd give up all my fame to fight your demons" and "I'd die for you". It's not love, it's an obsession.

Spice Girls – Naked Lyrics 3 years ago
Even the people who wrote this song with the girls knew it was quite a bit darker than the Spice Girls\' usual bubblegum pop that was very simple or meaningless. When I actually read the lyrics, I started to realize that it sounded a lot like the "child" or woman definitely had some abuse previously - maybe she was sexually abused, or maybe she was just coerced and agreed before she was ready, and so she\'s shown more of herself than she really would have wanted.\n\nAnd the saddest part is, now she\'s put herself into a position where she continues to do so. Once you agree to expose yourself to someone once, how are you to stop when someone else asks you to do it? She\'s basically been caught between being a slut, or if she says no once, she\'s suddenly a prude. Her only way is to not expose her emotions, and hope they do, because then they\'ll be more exposed than she is.

Spice Girls – Say You'll Be There Lyrics 4 years ago
I was picking out theme songs for characters and couples to make into a video on an animated show I like (look, there's tonnes of these things on YouTube for a lot of different things - like Harry Potter, Twilight, Game of Thrones, etc...). This particular time, I was looking at couples, since there's a LOT of them on this show. I picked this song out for a couple that was unofficial, and here's some of the things in it:

The guy in the relationship started by sending secret admirer notes to the girl, found out when two of the girls found a haiku he'd written and they couldn't figure out who it was for, or who wrote it, at first thinking it was for one of them and then deciding to find out the author when they eliminated the guys crushing on them. There were only four other guys, and the man who wrote them eventually confessed just before he left for the season. The girl managed to get in a kiss goodbye before he was dragged off the season.

In the season finale special, the girl told the guy that she thought they'd moved too fast and they should just be close friends. He was a little hurt, but harboured a hope that they'd be together, calling after her "I'll win you over! I love you!"

In the second season, the two were very close. The girl was very caring, aggressive towards the bully going after him all the time, calling him "baby", etc. In an exclusive clip, she admitted to her cousin that his chances with her were like "An old-school cassette tape in a world of MP3s", but later on did a cheer for all the others she'd insulted, saying her admirer was "goofy and scrawny but he's got my eye". When asked later on by an in-universe fan if there was still hope for them, she stated that they were just friends and that's all they would ever be. This was followed by her admitting that she would like to date him, but for whatever reason, she still insists she won't, and says they're going to keep being friends.

Any idea why this song works out that way? Especially "I decided we should be friends", "gotta take it easy", "Promise you will be there", "Put two and two together, you will see what our friendship is for", "There is no need to say you love me, it would be better left unsaid", etc.

I could continue on to their relationship in the third season, where it generally had less focus and it was the last season either of them appeared in. I have my own headcanon that they did eventually get together after the girl had a bad experience with a hotter guy who played her, but we don't know. They seemed pretty cozy, though. Their relationship seemed to always hover between together and friends, and it's still hovering today, eleven years on.
I later on found another song I thought fit if they were a couple, Avril Lavigne's "Push". Give it a listen.

And if you were wondering if you knew this cartoon, it's the "Total Drama" series, "Total Drama Island", "Total Drama Action" and "Total Drama World Tour" to be exact. The characters are Leshawna (label: The Sister With 'Tude) and Harold (label: The Dweeb with Mad Skillz).

TLC – No Scrubs Lyrics 5 years ago
Everyone's saying that it's about money, but not totally. It's not about a guy who doesn't have money, it's about a guy who's too lazy to make money. The difference? The guy who doesn't have money because he can't get a job is trying, and it's likely they'll try for a girl if they don't want to lose her. The guy who could get a job but won't isn't worth your time if they won't make an effort, because you better believe they're too lazy to treat a girl right, too. If you move in with a scrub, it's likely you end up doing all the work while he sits around watching TV.
Ever seen that episode of "Hey Arnold' when Oskar, one of the boarders, spends the whole episode whining at his wife to make him a sandwich? Or the one where he finally gets a job, but then keeps making excuses not to do it (sending a nine-year-old out to do it for him)? That's a scrub. He also pretends to learn to read for money by making a kid read to him and memorize the page he read, just because he can't be bothered to learn. What a total loser scrub! He didn't make an effort for his wife, either.

Kelly Clarkson – Because of You Lyrics 5 years ago
I just wanted to share something that happened today with this song. In the nearest town, there's this new karaoke coin booth - $2 for one song, $5 for three...anyway, I went in today, paid for a few songs, and went in. I went through a few like P!nk, Avril Lavigne, and then the machine goofed up when I wanted to do a T-Swift song and it instead replayed the song I'd just done. Anyway, the second song I chose was this one. I just noticed it in the list and decided, since it was a nice song, to play it.
And as I sang, tears formed in my eyes and I had trouble keeping the notes in the chorus because it wanted to wobble and break down.
I didn't figure out why the song was hitting a chord until afterwards. It's not what was intended, but it comes up. Have you ever had an eccentric person in your life, that doesn't do what you expect, that finds strange things interesting, that takes things at face value, that never lies?
Does that person have Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Even when you haven't been diagnosed yet because it's so mild that it's more like an eccentricity than a neurodivergence in comparison to those around you, being autistic is hard, because it's like being two people all the time. If you're not diagnosed, the world will try to beat the autism out of you. If you are diagnosed, it won't make a difference to some people, while the others will treat you with kid gloves. This, in many ways, is my song to everyone.

Because of you, I can't be me. I have to be happy and normal and absolutely like everyone else, because you'll pity and ridicule and exclude me if I don't. I can't even be me with someone who seems gentle and understanding, because they could be faking it all. Because that's what "normal" people do. They fake. And so I have to fake too.

I'm going to stay alive and try to keep surviving. But I'm never going to be able to be myself. And that's the saddest, scariest thing about the world, and this song explains all those things in a much more eloquent way than I ever could.

Just so you know, I don't think about that stuff every day, and I don't constantly feel sad about it. And it felt really good to sing it out and to realize that it's not just me who feels they have to be perfect and have their heart breaking on the inside, no matter the reason. Don't feel sorry for me. There's some parts of my life that make me feel like the happiest person in the world, sometimes. But other times, I need this song.

Tina Charles – I Love To Love (But My Baby Loves To Dance) Lyrics 8 years ago
I just don't know if this song is as simple as it makes itself out to be, because as someone else commented, what sort of man would just want to dance? Maybe he's doing it because he doesn't want to have to tell her he's not interested. So he insists on going out to dance clubs so he doesn't have to break her heart.
Alternatively, the reason for both wanting to dance and not wanting to break her heart completely is that he's gay. I don't want to make me sound like I'm stereotyping him, but this would be the media's perception, if Family Guy's dealings with sexual harrassment have taught the world anything.

Britney Spears – If U Seek Amy Lyrics 8 years ago
Wow! I just did a video with this song as a tribute to a pair of twins on a cartoon. Now it feels more symbolic - if the singer is one Britney and Amy is another Britney, it's even better. The cartoon labels the twins as "The Evil Twin" and "The Good Twin". So if we look at it as this song, sweet, shy, quiet, modest Sammy is looking for her dark side - cold, outgoing, loud, conceited Amy. The twins are each other's dark/light side. Sammy just wants a little bit of the love Amy gets, just like how real-Britney would rather get love, instead of image-Britney getting it all.
Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9PWTOxCc7Q

The Offspring – You're Gonna Go Far, Kid Lyrics 9 years ago
I saw a music video of this based on the characters from "Total Drama Island" and onward seasons. There were three characters it focused on in particular:

First was Scott, a sneaky farm boy who kept sabotaging his own team in order to trick the other team into a false sense of security, gained meek Zoey's trust in order to make her uneasy about her closest friends, and blackmailed MPD-suffering Mike after finding out his secret from his frined Cameron, threatening to tell Zoey if he didn't do what Scott wanted. Oh yeah, and he also framed one of his teammates for the sabotage he actually did, and framed another for stealing because he knew she knew what he was up to.

Second was Mal, who was essentially just part of Mike's split personalities - he is basically the personality that holds all of Mike's negativity, and has essentially become the dark side of him. He fits because he uses Mike's positive image to get what he wants, pretending to be him and working behind the scenes to mess with the other characters and get himself closer to the million dollars, which includes trying to crush Cameron, ruining Courtney and Gwen's friendship by exposing Courtney's competitive sneaky side, dropping a pile of debris on Gwen, and later trying to drown Zoey.

Finally, there's Scarlett, who kept her real personality secret for most of the season she was around for, acting sweet, smart, quiet and meek. In reality, the only thing she really was on that list was smart. She turned out to be a total psychopath, and was completely ready to kill five other teenagers to win a million dollars when it came to that.

All three of these characters were manipulative, sneaky, and good actors. They used those skills to get themselves further, while their opponents never see it coming. They're not the only characters who act this way (most of the designated villains of each season have at least some shades of this song), but they are the ones who are remembered for it. The meaning of this song can refer to each of them. There are real people out here who are like that. "Total Drama" is a parody of reality shows, and if you watch shows like "Survivor", you will notice that there are several contestants who react this way.

Temposhark – Don't Mess With Me Lyrics 9 years ago
I think the person this song is directed at is someone who was in a relationship with the singer. But now the singer has gotten bored with them, ie: "I've come, it's been fun, but won't you please disappear?"
Alternatively, the singer has been using them, and can't get any more out of them, be it pleasure or anything else - "Something tells me that you can't further my career".
Possibly, this person is power-hungry and uses people like the one they are singing to to get more power. And it works. If they are king, they may reason, they make a person think they can be his queen, and then play them for a sucker. And they get away with it - "Had a master plan, now I rule the world..." and "No one can stop me".

Lady GaGa – Alejandro Lyrics 11 years ago
Okay, I'm not interpreting this song, but calling attention to something. I found this song on a fanmade video of the cartoon reality show parody "Total Drama", specifically "Total Drama World Tour". Many people think this song reflects the relationship in the show between "queen bee" Heather and "arch-villain" Alejandro. Yeah, that's probably why, although the song actually relates more to Heather's attitude.
It could work as an interpretation, because Heather is in complete denial of the attraction she feels, due to her feeling that Alejandro is out to screw over every single person in the game, and has already charmed most of the girls on the show...and some of the guys. However, although other characters, such as Duncan, Sierra and Cody insist that Heather and Alejandro have something, Heather denies it every time, and eventually avoids him.
However, like the song says "You know that I love you boy", Alejandro keeps saying to Heather that she does like him, no matter how many times she says she doesn't.
And although this isn't part of the song, Heather proves that she'd take the money for winning rather than him when she exploits his own romantic feelings for her, using them to her advantage, then betraying him to grab the win for herself.

Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't think this is a bad song, by any means. It's more something to laugh about than something to hate. On the other hand, I've found two or three "Hey Arnold" AMVs using this song purely to bash the character of Lila. Sorry, that's a stupid thing to say, but people that like the show treat Lila like she's trying to mess with destiny, while she freaking helped by actually giving up her chance to play a main role in a school play she wanted to be in because she knew another girl wanted to get the kiss at the end from the male lead!

Paramore – Crushcrushcrush Lyrics 11 years ago
After reading through the comments, I was thinking of a "Hey Arnold" AMV using this song and two supporting characters that are paired together, in which it is portrayed from being more from the male's POV. In this case, the song describes their relationship in a way that sticks to canon, but develops it It shows that the male character has a major crush on the girl and believes that she feels the same way, deep down, but is too concerned about her reputation to do anything about it (she is the popular girl, while he is the school psychopath). He wants to find a time and place to show her that his devotion to her is serious.
The second verse feels like it is referring to a specific episode, in which the girl was blackmailed into pretending to be his girlfriend for a week, and the boy convinced himself it was real. The song suggest that he did that because he'd rather pretend that they were together than move on from her.

The chorus reminds me of an episode of "Hey Arnold" called "Helga's Masquerade" when one of the girls tries to get a character's attention by learning to act like his crush. Then at a costume party, she dresses up like said crush and tries to talk to the boy. She only goes back to herself when he calls her by the other girl's name.

Madonna – Material Girl Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't know much about Madonna, so I don't know if she is really a "material girl" or not, but it's obvious that this song is laughing about how materialistic everyone in the world is. There's a certain stock character type in 90s/2000s cartoons that fit this song such as the Ashleys from "Recess" (a club of rich fashion-obsessed girls all named Ashley), Rhonda from "Hey Arnold" (rich, fashionable, and superior, believes that having money makes her better than everyone else), and to an extent, Princess from "The Powerpuff Girls" (thinks that money can solve everything and starts screaming if she doesn't get what she wants).

Lily Allen – Knock 'Em Out Lyrics 11 years ago
I wrote a fanfiction where a girl went through a similar situation as the girl in this song. She made friends with this younger boy, and he developed a crush on her. She didn't like him romantically at all, and she was also nearly five years older than him, so she wasn't too pleased. At the start, she tried to let him down gently, like the girl making excuses in this song, but as he became more forceful and insistent, she was just like "screw subtlety" and kicked him out of her house on a visit, saying he wasn't welcome until he got over her. She actually sang part of the chorus straight to him when she was singing along to it in her room and caught him climbing up to the treehouse in her yard to get to her room.

Most people say that FLAG as an album is most likely the soundtrack for EA's musical in progress. It definitely follows a storyline about women in an asylum and fighting back, especially against men, and this song sums it up, although "Girls! Girls! Girls!" is also a very good interpretation. I always got the feeling that the story was set in Victorian times, when only girls were ever considered mentally unstable, and those girls were almost always oppressed by men, causing their so-called "insanity" which may have just been uniqueness and rebellion.

Lady GaGa – LoveGame Lyrics 11 years ago
I've read a "Harry Potter" fanfiction where the boy and girl spend the whole time playing each other. The girl is from the boy's future, and she knows that during his school years, he was a well-known player, so she refuses him when he asks her out. However, when they're both staying over at a friend's for Christmas, the girl says "Game on" and they spend the whole holiday trying to charm each other, while the girl pulls the other friend's girlfriend into her mission. Basically, the boy and girl are trying to make the other fall for them before they fall for the other. However, they keep wanting what this song is on about, but they just keep playing the game of love, and eventually, the boy is the first to give in, but the girl finally decides he's serious about wanting her to be his girlfriend and not just another in a long line of one-night-stands, and loses to win him.
Incidentally, how many songs have used different words to describe a boy's genital? At least "disco stick" is creative, if not witty or good.

Lady GaGa – Paparazzi Lyrics 11 years ago
This song always reminds me of the Nicktoon "Hey Arnold', which seems to be all about stalking the object of your affection. My favourite character follows the object of her affection constantly, although in her case, she hides it from him, worried her obsessiveness will scare him off if he even considers her as a potential girlfriend in the future, when she is ready to express it to him. She also has a stalker, who, for some reason, won't explain why he keeps showing up whenever she's trying to get a minute alone.
There's another semi-stalker, who is probably the more dangerous type, who doesn't exactly stalk the object of his affection in the way of following her around, but did once ask directly for a lock of her hair, and many people have insisted that he is a future rapist.
This song is one of my favourites right now, but yeah, it's about stalking. It reminds me of a story I heard about someone who was stalking Emma Watson.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – Face Down Lyrics 11 years ago
I originally saw this song as an AMV for "Hey Arnold" focusing on the relationship between two of the characters due to an episode having the boy blackmailing the girl, and therefore pushing her around. The girl, who is probably one of the stronger characters in the show due to her wealth and popularity, gives it straight to him, saying she never even wants to speak to him again. However, I think the main difference between this song and the relationship is the fact that the blackmailing really was out of love - a psychotic undeserved crush, sure, but still, it was out of affection. This song feels like an abusive relationship where the male simply abuses the female because it helps himself feel like he is in control, but he is being warned in this song that one day, the girl will just have had it, and break it off.
The relationship in the one episode the song referenced was similar in the way that the girl gave the relationship one week (due to the blackmailing). The boy convinced himself that she wouldn't want to break it off after that week she was bound to, but he was simply setting himself up for heartbreak, as she not only broke up, but called him a "low-down, despicable creep" and then a "slug". Later on, she also called him a "freak" and a "troll", but anyway, point is, the blackmailing reflects the described abuse, and the girl did exactly what this song warns this girl will do - break it off.

Meredith Brooks – Bitch Lyrics 11 years ago
I think the song's about any girl who feels like a walking oxymoron. I first heard this song on a "Hey Arnold" AMV on YouTube, meant to describe the character Helga Pataki. For those of you who have not seen the Nicktoon, Helga is the main bully of the fourth grade, and claims to hate Arnold, the main character, but due to complications and weak emotional bonds with her family, she fell in love with Arnold when they were very young, transferring all the feelings of love towards the person who fulfilled her idea of care, which was Arnold. The song fit Helga perfectly, because she's a bitch to most everyone, from her best friend Phoebe, to her dad who calls her by her sister's name more than half the time (yes, her dad can't even remember her name, while her mom is usually too busy drinking to notice her daughter, and her sister is either away, or soaking up attention from her parents so Helga resents her although she tries to be a good sister). However, Helga is, at heart, a shy romantic, scared of showing weakness to anyone. This is due to an event in preschool when she was sighing over Arnold and everyone laughed at her. This caused her to become a bully so people wouldn't dare bully her, and also to keep her love for Arnold secret - which might be why she becomes so obsessive when she does show it, writing poetry, having a shrine of him in her closet, and carrying around a heart-shaped locket with his picture in it, frequently pulling it out and monologuing about how much she loves him when she's alone.
Helga is also a child, although she's quite mature for her age, emotionally (able to process love at such a young age) and mentally (she had an unusually high mark on an aptitude test, surpassed only by her older sister at the same age). But Helga has to basically raise herself, so she is kind of like a child and a mother to her own self. As for being a sinner and a saint, Helga can do awful things like change her sister's grade, make her best friend lose a competition so she can win, and she'll do just about anything to keep Arnold away from girls she sees as threats to her, but in the end, she either redeems herself, or her plans backfire. But Helga also makes massive sacrifices and she does care about the people that are close to her. She gave up the one thing she really wanted for Christmas to give Arnold his Christmas miracle, although he never knew it was her. She has also showed, on several occasions, that although she often treats Phoebe badly, she really does care about her the way a best friend should.
Helga is basically a bit of everything and a walking oxymoron, and a personification of this song. In fact, Craig Bartlett, the creator of the show, chose her name to represent her exterior and interior. Her exterior is like her name, which sounds like "Hell girl". However, the meaning of it is "holy, sacred, successful, which represents her good heart and interior.

There's a song by Emilie Autumn that's very similar in premise, called "Thank God I'm Pretty", and I advise everyone reading to check it out. The lyrics are basically sarcastically saying "Thank you for giving me these looks", and it has lines like "Every ill merely brought on by myself", "I'm truly privileged to look this good without clothes on" and "It's lucky I hate to be taken seriously", and even "Everybody thinks I'm a fucking suicide girl".

Emilie Autumn – Let The Record Show Lyrics 13 years ago
I think of this as real murder, for some reason. There are five fanfictions where girls die tragically. One is stabbed in the heart, one dies to save her family, one is given deep cuts all over and then gets some stabs in the stomach, one takes an overdose, and the last is stabbed six times and then has her throat slit. All of those girls show a resemblance to this song. Like the one who got cuts and the first one are asking "why did I turn to you" because they put their trust in the wrong person. One died at the hands of their mental other half, and the other asked their father to kill them and end their pain, when all he did was kill her and screw up on purpose so she was stuck forever. And the overdose girl feels like the "prettiest wretched whore you've ever seen" because she was raped from when she was fourteen, and after some time, it stopped being rape, and she was willing to do it. The one who had her throat slit says "you're jealous, oh, you're jealous why" because the one who killed her only killed her because she looked like his girlfriend who was murdered, and she failed to be like the girl he wanted her to be. That's basically how I feel about this song. And whenever I think about the girl that wanted to die but had her murder screwed up, I always think "Katherine, Katherine, why did you ask him to kill you?"

Michael Jackson – Billie Jean Lyrics 13 years ago
1. Guys, STOP the MJ bashing! There isn't any concrete proof around the child molestation accusation, and I, for one, don't want to hear it. I'm 90% sure he didn't do anything.
2. Awesome song! We had it at my school ball, and everyone in the room was yelling out the lyrics and dancing.

A rare name. That's why I like it.

Number 1: Guys, please quit the MJ-bashing. It's not like anyone wants to hear that. Besides, I don't think he was a child molester, and as for the evidence that suggests otherwise, there could be a perfectly good explanation. Even if he did have sexual relations with a minor, it sounds like it was a one-time thing and probably regretted.
Number 2: This song is the shiz. It's catchy, the lyrics are fun, and MJ's voice is at its best. I agree with everyone, he was way better before he started trying to be white. I mean, how many fans care if he's black or white?
Number 3: RIP King of Pop! I know exactly how you got that name, and I will treasure that picture I have of your waxwork double and I from New Year's Eve in 2010.

"The kind of murder where nobody dies..." EA seems to write her songs specifically for my story about Roxanne Martela and her struggle to not become the slave to passion she already is. (No, that does not mean she begs for everything. She submits, but doesn't ask.)

All I can say it that I think Katie was the ten-year-old girl in this movie.

Emilie Autumn – Swallow Lyrics 13 years ago
I've read that it's about her bipolar disorder. Like she'll swallow the lithium pill if it will help her manic depression level go down so she can control it, but if it doesn't and she gets worse, she'll come back to haunt whoever told her to take it. She'll swallow, if it will help the "sea level" go down. The "sea level" is the illness, and if one drop of water is added (it gets worse) she'll drown (in the insanity), and then she'll come back to haunt the person. That's basically what she's saying.
I sometimes feel that way too, really.

I read on Wikipedia that Emilie has been a victim of rape, so this song is a great way to say that. I've noticed that in contrast with other artists, Emilie's songs all seem to mean something to her.

Emilie Autumn – Dead Is the New Alive Lyrics 13 years ago
I like this song. It reminds me of this story I'm writing based on the "Goosebumps" series, mainly the "Night Of The Living Dummy" books. My story is called "Slave To Passion" and I feel that the main character I'm writing about identifies with this song. She's become a slave to the ventriloquist dummy Slappy and he's now turned himself human. She doesn't know how to deal, and she's terrified of him, so "Despair's the new survival" works, because she's given up and let it happen. Her mind is telling her to "give in, give in, give in, give in", and she has to "play the game" even though she'll "never win". How else can she survive? That's what she thinks. So her will as a person is kind of taken over. It's like she isn't really alive anymore, so for her, dead really is the new alive.

This song personifies so many fanfictions I've read. Try things like "Strange Is What We Aim For" in the "Dark Knight" category. Or Darkness Takes Over has written a few "Nightmare On Elm Street" fanfictions that, although twisted and creepy and terrifying, do kind of work with this story. I guess the line that really comes to me with this is "I'm hurting you for your own good".

Well, not that the song has a good message, but it's fun and easy to sing along with. Lets face it, we ALL know someone like that. There's a certain brunette that seems to express at least two, if not three of those adjectives in the chorus.

Those are pretty much all the words. After three choruses there's just this:
That's what girls do
Girls do
Girls do
Girls
You ask me why I change the colour of my hair
Yeah

I love this song. Wonder what it's about? It's one of my favourites, it's sort of a song about both being lost in love and life.

It's a catchy and fun song, but 1. Did Katy actually write this? And 2. If she did, WTF?
