It is the reverse of the typical order of that phrase (which is so commonly repeated in some of my circles that I didn't catch that the order was backwards during the first dozen listens). In the faith, you usually use your eyes to learn since so much of it is text based. Being well read in scriptures can turn into a good way to serve, since God's words and ways can be more discerning and compassionate that my own ways. But I don't think that's what this is touching on. Have you ever noticed that just listening is a needed service? Seeing what's around you with an open heart, open mind, open eyes--it changes how you respond... And learning with your hands sounds like learning from experience--learning from doing. It's a much slower way of learning than book learning, but much deeper. Maybe if part of his faith or hope has been destroyed or misplaced, this is a way of finding a deeper, more solid faith? |

The sound at the beginning reminds me of a respirator. The whole song reminds me of a man dying... which would certainly qualify for the end of this world and the beginning of a trip to somewhere he's never gone. 'Golden blades, forged with love...' There are ties that bind, and usually it's the loved ones that have cut off life support when nothing else can be done. And it might be all those sunday mornings coming back to me, but I hear it written 'just the grace of One'. The whole song sounds like someone saying their last words. Their regrets at their fallings, misdeeds, and well wishes for the ones they love. But who/what is the 'they'? |

I think I agree. I just noticed that the second two versus seem to mirror the first two. He wants to see his future--a possible family--and what he pictures, what he sees, is a man who's alone (and obsessed with himself) or just unhappy with whatever life he's found himself with. He's trying to see the future because he's afraid and he sees himself hiding in the past. He's accepted that he's being self-absorbed, and sees himself living forever self-absorbed, but in the form of missing all he had/was. (Maybe?) It's like... just knowing the future won't fix or help you improve life. Son you should invest. |
