| Lamb of God – The Faded Line Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This is actually written as a follower of Jesus, not Jesus Himself. witness shame's parade the pain of blame repaid it's fucking hopeless accusations and denial Meaning: a saint is following Jesus' footsteps in martyrdom. he or she is ashamed of past sins committed. hopeless, demon of another day colorless, stoned and solid gray emptiness, of promises i made so faithless, the tenets long betrayed Meaning: we are all sinners, except for Christ Himself. even the saints who were martyred had flaws which they were ashamed of. this saint is bracing for the worst as he or she waits for the afterlife and for God's final judgment. everything seems hopeless. walk the faded line cursed crawl of time silence the only promise ever kept Meaning: suffering serves as reparation for sin. this saint is determined to carry his or her cross until the end. familiar touch a ritual to numb the cut salvation in vice anguish is realizing what could have been but never was it's emptiness that fills the cup devotion in the method of my fall Meaning: holy communion, or the Eucharist. Jesus' body and blood is the bread and wine. pointless, futility continuing endless, flowing corrupted vein Meaning: the blood of Christ makes us drunk. walk the faded line cursed crawl of time silence the only promise ever kept it's fucking hopeless Meaning: a follower of Christ walks the line that Jesus walked before us. It's a long and hard road. If we don't have anything nice (and truthful) to say, then we are to remain silent as we carry our crosses. It's ok to feel hopeless, because Jesus felt this same hopelessness as He died on the cross. Never give up. |

| Lamb of God – Forgotten (Lost Angels) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
If you're wondering about the real angels, they are in heaven with God and all of God's faithful, including the saints. Although they are not here on earth, we can pray to them, asking them to pray to the Lord on our behalf. This song is specifically about channeling hatred toward evil spirits and how Jesus did this to triumph over evil. |

| Lamb of God – Forgotten (Lost Angels) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
If music industry people in Los Angeles are "scumbags," it is because they, like all of us, have been enslaved by demons, which are fallen (lost) angels. This song is shows us how to channel our hatred towards these demons. This is a mean and cold town, I hate this fucking place. Watch the rats as they all drown, Dying slowly day by day. Meaning: The world is a fucked up place. Specifically in L.A., Air pollution and inner city poverty are local examples of how demons enslave us and make this life hell. Decrepit and falling down, Cesspool of human waste. Meaning: See above meaning. Swallow profits in deep now, in death you'll finally know the taste. Meaning: We will achieve true happiness after we die and enter heaven. There are no souls left here to save. Forgotten, lost angels, long disgraced. Meaning: There are demons among us everyday. God threw them out of heaven along with the devil himself, and they are here tormenting us. These demons are forgotten, lost, and long disgraced. You fucking hypocrite, But hooks in lips they do not lie. Compassion served not on your plate, How many of them have you watched die? Meaning: These demons enslave us sinners and have us do their bidding for them. Every time someone sins against you, it really is a demon pulling their strings. I can't write you a happy song, i can't write you a sing-a-long, The only catchy hook i've got, Is the one in my bleeding gut. Meaning: Jesus Christ is the speaker in this song. He got stabbed when he was dying on the cross, and water poured out from His side (He was running out of blood). This is a symbol of how He was crucified by DEMONS who enslaved the Roman soldiers under Pontius Pilot, who was enslaved by demons as well. Jesus is trying to free us from these demons. Burn it down Meaning: Jesus is giving himself up. He is basically saying "bring it on." He is all-powerful, but He knows He must die. There are no souls left here to save. Forgotten, lost angels, long disgraced. Meaning: See previous meaning for this part. Dead stares, dead eyes, Choked hopes and vacant minds, Blank words, blank lives, The end result of endless lies. Meaning: This portrays humanity's condition of enslavement under demons. There's no angels here, To get lost in the first place Jackhammer a fault line, Pray for earthquakes. Mulhollands's on fire, And my cig started it. '92 should have burnt this fucker down, We're here to finish it. Meaning: All this is what the demons are saying to us while they laugh at us and torment us- "there's no such thing as angels, let alone demons," we don't give a fuck about you, go jackhammer a fault line and burn down Los Angeles (hence the '92 riots). All the result of DEMONS. I'm not impressed by much here, Much less what you have to say. Don't give a fuck who you know, i just want to leave this hellhole Meaning: This is what Jesus says to the laughing demons as He is dying on the cross. (The demons must be talking about how the devil is their king and how Jesus should surrender to the devil). Jesus never gives in. Know that you mean nothing to me, Nor the lies that seep from your teeth. Won't piss on you if you're on fire, One more self-important liar. Meaning: Jesus is saying this to the demons as He dies. The demons are self-important liars, having defied God and tried to take over. Burn it down. Jesus: Bring it on demons! (He eventually rises again on the third day, defeating evil. We are all a part of His body in the Holy Spirit. We will rise with Him if we love Him and believe in Him.) Forgotten (lost angels) = demons (fallen angels) |

| Lamb of God – Now You've Got Something To Die For Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
*See disclaimer at bottom Now you've got something to die for Now you've got something to die for Infidel, imperial Meaning: Jesus is being crucified by the Roman army, the imperials of their time (as Americans, we are the imperials of our time). The same Romans who crucified Jesus eventually became Christians. Note that Jesus was a Jew. Jews believed in one God, while the Romans were polytheistic during this time. This is why Jesus screams "infidel" too. Lust for blood, a blind crusade Apocalyptic, we count the days Meaning: Jesus was not a Roman citizen. The Roman Empire was fueled by blood sports, like gladiator matches, gruesome executions, and non-stop war. Jesus wants to convert these imperials into God-fearing people. Bombs to set the people free, blood to feed the dollar tree Flags for coffins on the screen, oil for the machine Meaning: We (Americans) are the present-day Roman Empire. Army of liberation, gunpoint indoctrination The fires of sedition Fulfill the prophecy Meaning: We (Americans) are the present-day imperials. Now you've got something to die for Now you've got something to die for Meaning: Jesus converts the imperials as he is dying on the cross. (Because the Roman Empire was so huge, the newly converted Romans eventually spread Christianity very quickly). Send the children to the fire, sons and daughters stack the pyre Stoke the flame of the empire, live to lie another day Meaning: More imagery comparing the United States to the Roman Empire Face of hypocrasy, raping democracy Apocalyptic, we count the days Meaning: Jesus is still trying to convert the imperials. We'll never get out of this hole Until we've dug our own grave And drug the rest down with us The burning home of the brave Burn. Meaning: Jesus embraces those who crucified Him as brothers. He gives them these instructions. The newly converted imperials are ignited by the fire of the Holy Spirit. They spread this fire of the passion of Christ throughout the known world at the time. ("home of the brave" compares the U.S. to the Roman Empire yet again). At least an empire can spread Jesus' message of peace and love very quickly and successfully throughout the world. Now you've got something to die for Now you've got something to die for Meaning: Jesus successfully converts the imperials who crucified Him. They must have seen His strength, being able to endure so much pain and still being able to love everyone. *DISCLAIMER* I love the United States of America. Freedom of speech allows us to spread Jesus' message everywhere we go. No country is perfect. Peace and brotherhood will unite us all. |

| Lamb of God – Fake Messiah Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The speaker is actually Jesus Christ. As His lungs are crushed hanging on the cross, there is a crowd of people yelling at Him, telling Him to say He is a fake. (We all crucified Jesus with our sins). He loves these people. Jesus is trying to make them see that He is God. Everything you've ever begged me to be Could never have meant any less to me. Meaning: The people watching Jesus die are shouting and yelling. They are demanding Jesus to admit that He's a fake. Jesus is basically being tortured, and the people are trying to get Him to "confess" that He isn't really God. Jesus remains strong, but He is in pain. (Remember He can save Himself at any time if He wants). Everything you've ever asked me to say It's so far away from the truth. Meaning: Jesus is dying on the cross as all this is happening. He remains strong. So far away from the truth. So far away. Meaning: Jesus is God. However, He feels human pain. Fake Messiah Stitches sewn in your eyes. Meaning: You know how innocent people are tortured until they admit just about anything? This is happening to Jesus on the cross. He screams "fake messiah" because that is what the crowd wants to hear. However, Jesus still manages to warn them that the devil is blinding them. Fake Messiah Prophecy now denied. Meaning: Jesus, still being tortured into "confessing" that He isn't God, is in severe pain. He still manages to warn the people about evil (between breaths). Although He allows Himself to die (He could have saved Himself), the pain is really getting to Him. Over and over and ever again Defending your insignificance. Meaning: The crowd has been shouting and yelling at Him this whole time. The people are blinded by the devil and evil spirits. Jesus forgives them and loves them. (If you're shouting at someone as part of a crowd, you're "defending your insignificance"). Useless intent hidden behind your mask A coward's voice anonymous. Meaning: Mob mentality. The "mask" is the crowd. The anonymous voice is one of many, all shouting at Jesus as He dies painfully. So far away from the truth. So far away. Meaning: The pain is getting to Jesus again. It's getting worse and worse with every breath (think "Hourglass"). Fake Messiah Stitches sewn in your eyes Meaning: You know how innocent people are tortured until they admit just about anything? This is happening to Jesus on the cross. He screams "fake messiah" because that is what the crowd wants to hear. However, Jesus is warning them that the devil is trying to blind them. Fake Messiah Prophecy now denied Meaning: Jesus, still being tortured into "confessing" that He isn't God, is in severe pain. He still manages to warn the people about evil (between breaths). Although He allows Himself to die (He could have saved Himself), the pain is really bad now. Fake Messiah Open mouth, drawing flies Meaning: Jesus is really giving in (verbally). He knows He will be dead soon, so He is telling the crowd what they want to hear. Jesus is God, but His human pain is real. Fake Messiah Prophecy now denied Meaning: He still manages to warn the people about evil (between breaths). It's really hard though. Generation failure suspended in irrelevance. Slit you wide open Just to see what you're made of Meaning: Jesus loves us, but He's really sad that we're so violent. This crowd has been watching Him this whole time as He slowly dies. (Jesus is showing them what He's made of). So far away from the truth. Meaning: Jesus is God. Messiah... Fake... Messiah... Fake... Messiah... Meaning: Jesus is finally dying after all the torture. He seems to be telling the crowd what they want to hear: "I'm a fake messiah." BECAUSE HE'S IN SO MUCH PAIN. However, He still has the strength and courage to scream messiah first. Jesus knows in His heart that He is God. |

| Lamb of God – Descending Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Jesus Christ, being God in human form, knows how hard it is to hold on to hope. the river I'm bound to be found in a rope chosen bound for the hang when I'm blind and I think I see everything convincing myself again Meaning: God is in all of us, and we are in Him. Whether we believe in Him or not, He lives in each one of us. This suicidal person has Jesus in him, experiencing his depression with him. this god that I worship (a faded reflection) this demon I blame (a flickering flame) conspire as one, exactly the same ITS EXACTLY THE SAME Meaning: Suicidal person losing his faith. Jesus is with him regardless. Jesus never leaves his side. He feels the same things, walking with the depressed person every step of the way. DESCENDING to never recover the pieces to all that we've lost RECOVER...THE PIECES LOST THE PIECES...TO ALL WE'VE LOST Meaning: Jesus is telling us that we are all in this together. Every soul is beautiful to God. Losing our faith in God is like losing pieces of ourselves forever. Jesus is in all of us. I shudder to think of the consequence it's blasphemy simple and true the tragic protaganist torments convincing myself again Meaning: Suicidal person still losing his faith, and Jesus still with Him nonetheless. Jesus feels the same depression that the suicidal person feels, because Jesus is in all of us. this god that I worship (a faded reflection) this demon I blame (a flickering flame) conspire as one, exactly the same ITS EXACTLY THE SAME Meaning: Jesus is with this person. Even in our darkest times, Jesus is always with us, feeling the same things. Jesus is in all of us. this god that I worship this demon I blame conspire as one, exactly the same ITS EXACTLY THE SAME ITS EXACTLY THE SAME ITS EXACTLY THE SAME Meaning: The suicidal person doesn't believe in God anymore. However, Jesus is actually the faded reflection (Jesus is with the depressed person the whole time). The demon, which makes the flame flicker, is real. However, the suicidal person thinks that both God AND evil doesn't exist (which isn't true). God is in all of us. Every single one of us. The depressed person could be Randy (vashts80 rightly mentioned the Sacrament documentary), but it could be ANY depressed person. Arik4484, I think you're right about the heaven vs. hell, good vs. evil, and purgatory. I'm glad you see the religious meanings too. By the way, I think 11th hour (drinking song) is also about Jesus' drinking of wine at the last supper, His agony in the garden, and His depression leading up to being crucified. Just a thought. |

| Lamb of God – Walk with Me in Hell Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The speaker is actually Jesus Christ. Pray for blood Pray for the cleansing Pray for the flood Pray for end of this nightmare This lie of a life can as quickly as it came dissolve Meaning: Jesus is saying that this life is a lie. Eternal life in heaven awaits us if we replace ourselves with the soul of Jesus. Jesus is in all of us, so it is up to us to emulate Him in every way possible. This is the real flood, or cleansing: replacing yourself with Jesus. The nightmare is life on earth. We seek only reprieve And welcome the darkness The myth of a meaning, so lost and forgotten Meaning: We are all sinners. However, we are all one body in Christ. Just like Jesus welcomed death, we should too. The "myth of the meaning" is the fact that Jesus is in all of us and we are in Him. Jesus addresses us as "we" because His spirit lives in all of us. We are His. Take hold of my hand For you are no longer alone Walk with me in hell Meaning: Jesus was crucified, and then He descended into hell itself to defeat death! He rose again on the third day, and ascended into heaven. If we walk with Christ in hell, then we will walk with Him when He rises again! We are all part of Him. Pray for solace Pray for resolve Pray for a savior Pray for deliverance Some kind of purpose, a glimpse of a light in this void of existence Meaning: Jesus is our only hope. Faith in God gives us solace and resolve. Jesus Christ is our savior who delivers us from evil. He is our only glimpse of light in this dark world. Oh... Now witness the end of an age Hope dies in hands of believers Who seek the truth in the liar's eyes Meaning: Jesus is referring to the fallen nature of man. We all turned our back on God with our sins (we are all sinners). Now we have to die with Christ before we have any hope of entering heaven. (the liar is the devil, who tries to tempt us to sin). Jesus is going through hell, to deliver us from evil. The least we can do is take His hand and walk with Him. He is always with us. |

| Lamb of God – Ruin Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This is the song that opened my eyes to how much these guys love God. The opening scream symbolizes Jesus' death and resurrection. Notice how there's three main parts to the scream: 1. At first it sounds agonizing and painful (Jesus' death on the cross). 2. Then it gets very low and throaty, symbolizing Jesus' descent into hell (before Jesus freed us from sin, everyone went to hell; He has to go there to defeat death). -Randy even looks down during this part in the music video. 3. Finally, the scream gets louder near the end, symbolizing Jesus rising again on the third day. Randy even looks up during this part in the music video. The knowledge that seeking the favor of another Means the murder of self. Meaning: This is Christ speaking. Jesus gained the favor of many disciples with His message of peace and love. However, now He is being crucified for it. This is the resolution The end of all progress The death of evolution It bleeds all life away. Meaning: "This is my end, or conclusion" (Jesus speaking). Jesus' death on the cross is all of our deaths. Therefore it is the divine end of humanity (physical end; our spirit lives on). Silence speeds the path to the streams of solace that run so few and narrow. Brooks that babble the sounds of torture. Meaning: Silence = death. The old you was crucified with Jesus (just like me and all the faithful). Now we are all part of Christ. Knowing this is solace, in a world of torture. We are one body. You will one day rise To flood the banks of the chosen. Meaning: Just like Jesus rose again to give us life (like flooding irrigation banks for farming), we will rise again if we die with Christ. This is the art of ruin. Meaning: Jesus is showing us how to die. He shows us the ultimate sacrifice, His lungs being crushed by His own body weight hanging on the cross. This is the resolution The end of all progress The death of evolution It bleeds all life away. Meaning: Again, Jesus trusts God the Father and says "This is my end, or conclusion." Jesus' death on the cross is all of our deaths. Therefore it is the divine end of humanity. (physical end; our spirit lives on). I will show you all that I have mastered Fear. Pain. Hatred. Power. This is the art of ruin. Meaning: Jesus could have saved Himself if He wanted. However, He shows us the ultimate sacrifice. Jesus has mastered fear, because He doesn't fear death. Jesus has mastered pain, because he endures the pain of his lungs being crushed by his own body hanging on the cross. Jesus has mastered hatred, because He loves us (even though we crucified Him ourselves with our sins). Jesus has mastered power, because He is all-powerful. Jesus is God. |

| Lamb of God – Foot to the Throat Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Once again, Jesus is the speaker. Lamb of God is the name of the band after all. *Disclaimer at bottom* VixSin86 correctly pointed out the seal of Virginia, with a toppled tyrant and virtue's foot on Great Britian's throat. Virginia death threat, Virginia creeper vine. The hands that feed intent, choke the purpose of this time. Meaning: In the Revolutionary War, Americans broke away from Great Britain because of high, unfair taxes. However, Jesus teaches that having wealth in this life means nothing. The poor have more of a chance of going to heaven, because greed is a sin. We really shouldn't care about taxes. Take all that you can give, and I will make it mine No care for what you've spent, even fool's gold has it's shine Meaning: All glory and honor belongs to God. God created everything, and He is everything. He is in us all. Jesus is saying that money means nothing. Never held down, never restrainted. Virtue's foot to the throat, free of broken chains. Thus always to tyrants, Laugh at the conquered, the victims now betray. Meaning: After the devil tempted Eve in the garden, God set up the balance. Humanity's foot will forever crush the serpent's neck, symbolizing our freedom from sin through Jesus. However, the serpent will bite the foot as it dies. The devil's venom kills us. The serpent's venom is really our own sin. We are tempted to sin by the devil, so it all makes sense. And in this Commonwealth, There's merely a common concern for self. We hold these lies to be self-evident, As the dividends will reflect. Meaning: Some states call themselves commonwealths, but all states believe that we all are morally right. However, people just work hard so they can get as much money as they can. Then they keep it in their respective families, not giving enough of it back to the community or charity (i.e. commonwealth). The idea of a commonwealth is a lie. And in this Commonwealth, There's merely a common concern for self. The coffers have long run dry Meaning: Same as above. Never held down, never restrainted. Virtue's foot to the throat, free of broken chains. Thus always to tyrants, Laugh at the conquered, the victims now betray. Meaning: Again, After the devil tempted Eve in the garden, God set up the balance. Like a bull in a China shop, But the shelves have all been cleared. A thief in an empty vault, The sheep already sheared A screen door on a submarine, An eagle with a broken wing, Hope in a dead man's dream, The sound of a bell that will never ring Meaning: Hoarding money will do us no good. Money will not help us get to heaven when we die. You're just wasting time Meaning: Trying to accumulate wealth is a waste of time. We are here to fight against the evil spirits that enslave us. We should take up our crosses and follow Jesus. DISCLAIMER: Capitalism is not bad. Communism is far more evil than Capitalism. Free markets and private ownership are necessary to keep things civil in this country and around the world. |

| Lamb of God – Set to Fail Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Jesus' physical and emotional sacrifice is addressed in this song. Jesus is the speaker. *Disclaimer at bottom* You want to blame me for the way you hate yourself You think you can find who you are in someone else Criticize to better your relative positioning You've got a long way to go Meaning: Jesus, dying on the cross, is being condemned by humanity. Like most of LOG's songs (Jesus IS the Lamb of God), this is Jesus speaking. We can't find who we are in anyone but Jesus. It's easy for people to criticize Jesus. In fact, there's lots of comedians who make fun of Jesus, basically calling Him a pussy. However, criticizing Jesus means you've got a long way to go on your journey of life. Faith in Jesus saves us from sin. So go and weave your tale of woe Convincing yourself it's so You're so set to fail Meaning: Jesus is telling us that He is the way, the truth, and the life. By not following Him, we are destined to fail. We must follow Jesus if we hope to be saved. Somewhere you finally lost your way Only yourself left to betray Meaning: By losing our faith and not following Jesus' path, we betray all that is good in the world. Jesus is in all of us and we are in Him, so we betray ourselves as well (by not following Jesus). A nameless heir apparent, paranoid despair You take great measure to appear like you don't care Meaning: People think Jesus was a failure because He never had children of His own, and they think He lied by acting like He didn't care. Jesus never lied; He is God in human form. Most men have an urge to father children that is nearly impossible to ignore. Jesus, in human form, had these same urges and desires. However, He knew God the Father's plan was for Him to not have children. Therefore, Jesus did not "take measures to appear" like He didn't care about having kids, but He set a perfect example of sacrifice, both physically and emotionally. He sacrificed and refused to have kids even though it was in His DNA to want kids. This is why priests are not allowed to marry. They must sacrifice and not have kids just like Jesus did. Precision and persuasion must precede the proper lie You lost it before you began Meaning: If you think Jesus pretended He didn't want kids, then you're lying to yourself. Jesus sacrificed His wants and desires for the sake of humanity. It was the only way. So go and weave your tail of woe Convincing yourself it's so You're so set to fail Meaning: By not seeing Jesus for what He truly is, you're setting yourself up to fail. Jesus is God, and He is our only hope in this world. Somewhere you finally lost your way Only yourself left to betray Meaning: By not following Jesus, we are betraying all that is good in the world, including ourselves. *Disclaimer regarding the second verse* This could also be talking about people criticizing priests for not having kids. I'm pretty damn certain that Lamb of God are Catholic, and many of them are married. Becoming a priest AND getting married are two separate Sacraments. Whatever you are called to do in life, put God at the center of it. Also, notice that there are no women in the music video, only men. This reinforces my theory that LOG is pointing out these two Sacraments (marriage OR priesthood) as two valid possibilities in life. |

| Lamb of God – Choke Sermon Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Jesus wants us to proclaim His name before we're dead and it's too late. Remember Omerta: "free speech for the living/ dead men tell no tales." Sermon sung me slow to sleep Faster if I had a choice Meaning: Jesus experienced a slow and painful death on the cross. With every breath another death Still so in love with your own voice Meaning: Jesus is God in human form, and every breath on the cross is extremely painful. Mankind killed Him with our sins (including our lies, or our VOICES). Idle threats to hide regrets Excuses serve to bide the time Meaning: Mankind's lies killed Jesus. Remember lying is a sin. Cover tracks, double back We summon silence so divine Meaning: We are all one body in Christ, so we really sealed our own fate when we killed Christ with our sins. Now we have to die in order for God's love to redeem us. Greeted with a thundering absence of applause Meaning: When Jesus was dying on the cross, the crowd of people was shouting and cursing at Him. Choke on your own words Lies are venom in your veins Burn from the inside And never speak my name Meaning: Jesus' choking death is our choking death. Jesus is in us all, because He loves us. However, we are sinners. We are dying because of our own lies (sins). We will die. After we die, we will never speak Jesus' name, so it will be too late to spread His word. Jesus complex, gag reflex Trigger happy redundancy Meaning: We all killed Jesus with our sins. Each sin is like pulling a trigger aimed at Jesus. We are all guilty. No thrill, no chase, no saving grace Hypnotic in monotony Meaning: Mary the mother of God is the only person who achieved saving grace in her assumption into heaven (body AND soul). As for the rest of us, we are pathetic sinners who are "hypnotic in monotony." At least God still loves us. Loaded with a salt rock shot You say you're everything you're not Meaning: Every sin shoots Jesus with a symbolic salt rock, killing Him slowly and stinging His wounds. His death on the cross is all of our faults, because we are all sinners. What might have been is all you've got From here and now you're dead to me Meaning: It didn't have to be this way, but because we've sinned, Jesus has to die on the cross. Now we have to take up our crosses and follow Him if we hope to be saved. Greeted with a thunderous absence of applause Meaning: All the people shouting and cursing at Him when he's dying on the cross. Choke on your own words Lies are venom in your veins Burn from the inside And never speak my name Meaning: Again, Jesus' choking death is our choking death. Jesus is in us all, because He loves us. However, we are all sinners. We are dying because of our own lies, or sins. We will die. After we die, we will never speak Jesus' name, so it will be too late to spread His word. Nothing will ever erase Or undo your disgrace Meaning: Unlike Mary, who is full of grace, we are all full of disgrace. A lonely self-embrace They've long forgotten you Meaning: Remember we're all one body in Christ. Jesus' arms were spread out when He was dying on the cross, almost like an embrace. No one embraced Him back. We all killed Him with our sins. However, we are all a special part of Jesus, so His lonely self-embrace is our lonely self-embrace. Still cling to what it was A lost and hopeless cause Meaning: Jesus had to fight through the pain even though it seemed hopeless. He was God, but He was in human form. He had fear and doubt just like any one of us. It all seemed hopeless to Him, but He fought on anyway. By following Him, we have to "cling" to this "hopeless cause" as well. Forever mourning your loss They've long forgotten you Meaning: Jesus' teachings didn't start spreading around the world until after His death and resurrection. Even then, people still sinned and will always sin. We have all lost touch with God's plan. We need to realize that we are all part of God. Forgetting God is actually forgetting our own purpose in life. Murdered slowly in minute increments of time Pissing up a rope Another moment passes by Meaning: Just like Jesus died slowly, we are all dying slowly in some way. Jesus is in all of us, and we are in Him. We are His body, and He loves us. Choke on your own words Lies are venom in your veins Burn from the inside And never speak my name Meaning: Once again, Jesus' choking death is our choking death. Jesus is in us all, because He loves us. However, we are all sinners. We are dying because of our own lies, or sins. We will die. After we die, we will never speak Jesus' name, so it will be too late to spread His word. |

| Lamb of God – As The Palaces Burn Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Like many LOG songs, this one addresses the fallen nature of mankind and how we are slaves to sin. The speaker is Jesus. First 2 lines: Because we sin, we are slaves to demons (evil spirits, or fiends). Jesus, though He never sinned, is in us all, and we are in Him. Jesus was in human form even though He is God. He identifies with us. Therefore He considers Himself to be a slave to evil as well. He is dying on the cross when He sings this song. Next 3 lines: Jesus wants us to expose the fiends' lies to other people. We are all slaves to evil spirits, and we are all in this together. We are all one body in Christ. Instead of fighting each other, we should be fighting against the demons that enslave us. Next 2 lines: Dying with Jesus in your heart is waging war against evil. The fiends do not want us to do this. Dying with Christ is our resistance. Next 2 lines: We are all dying. Our bodies are temples of the Lord, and our hearts are set on fire by the Holy Spirit. God's fire of love burns in us all. This is why we dance and rejoice even though we're dying. Next 2 lines: By taking up our crosses and following Jesus, we are killing the devil and all the evil spirits that enslave us. We will "gain our just reward" if we follow Jesus. Next 2 lines: The forces of good (God, His angels, all His faithful) will hunt down and destroy all the evil spirits in the final battle. For all our hard work on earth, we will enter into heaven. "Mankind" will reap what we've sown. Next line: We have to die (demise = death) in order for God's love to redeem us. Next line: God's covenant is beautiful if you can see it. When Jesus died, the Holy Spirit (God's Spirit) filled the hearts of all people forever. Every single person on earth is part of Jesus, who is God. We are part of God, because He loves us. Jesus' death on the cross is all our deaths. His resurrection is all of our resurrections. Next line: Jesus taught turning the other cheek. If someone punches the side of your face, get up and point at the other side of your face, letting them hit you again. Jesus allowed Himself to be crucified. His lungs were crushed by his own body weight hanging on the cross. Jesus is the paradox of power and peace. Next 3 lines: We should not fear other people, because we are all one body in Christ. We should join together and destroy the evil spirits that enslave us. We are all slaves to our own sin. We all sin, but following Jesus is our revolt. Next 2 lines: Dying with Christ is our resistance. Next 2 lines: The fire of the Holy Spirit burns in us all, and our bodies are all temples of the Lord. We should be happy to die with Jesus to destroy evil. Next 2 lines: We have to die (demise = death) in order for God's love to redeem us. Next 2 lines: Evil spirits, or fiends, will be destroyed forever. |

| Lamb of God – Bloodletting Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Archaic methods transfer through well in the face of mass denial. Meaning: Being crucified is an old and out-dated form of execution. Christianity really took off after Jesus' death, proving that "archaic methods transfer through well in the face of mass denial." Bitterness fuels the mode for the escape of mediocrity. Meaning: Mankind kills one another for entertainment. Stepping the grate, shattered nerves ground down to a glass edge carrying me away. Meaning: Jesus' lungs were crushed by His own body on the cross. Gravity pulled His rib cage down, destroying His lungs. It must have felt like a glass edge. Bloodletting a favorite game of solitaire. Meaning: Mankind kills one another for entertainment. Jesus lets his blood be poured out for us. A suicide mission destined to fail, a moving ladder to climb taking me away. Meaning: Jesus could have saved Himself by calling on his angels, but He didn't give in. Now imagine breathing when your lungs are being crushed. It would be like a moving ladder, because your chest goes up and down when you take a breath. Jesus is dying slowly. I wouldn't have it any other way. Meaning: Jesus lets his blood be poured out. He saves us from sin. |

| Lamb of God – Hourglass Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Privileged, a chosen few Blessed with our time in hell Witness a divine vision, the day we all fell still Meaning: We were hand-picked by God to be born. This world is mankind's exile, having given in to original sin (Adam & Eve story). We are all one body in Christ, so Jesus' death on the cross signifies our own deaths and resurrection. If we take up our crosses and follow Jesus, we have hope for redemption. Rapture of the dying age, a shattered hourglass Wrath of the warring gods and soon this too shall pass Meaning: In the garden of eden, mankind had eternal life. Since we failed and sinned,(Adam & Eve story), the "hourglass" of eternal life shattered. Now we all have to die in Christ to be saved and enter heaven. It's only getting worse, not worth a moment's regret Each dawn another curse, every breath a twisting blade Meaning: Jesus' lungs were crushed by his own weight, hanging on the cross. This pain ("every breath a twisting blade")is being compared to our inevitable death ("each dawn another curse"). Remember that we are one body in Christ. What will be left behind in the ashes of the wake? Meaning: Our bodies will return to ashes. An ill wind blows this way, the edge of the envelope burns Forbearance and my vengeance, payment for your intent Meaning: Jesus' lungs were being crushed on the cross, so "an ill wind" is Him describing this pain. "The edge of the envelope burns" symbolizes our slow decay, going through life knowing that we will eventually die. We must experience death because of our fallen nature. Fear and death in the wings, in thrall of those fallen from grace Petty is as petty does, witness the mass disgrace Meaning: Jesus' arms were spread out on the cross, like wings. He felt human fear, but He did not give in, and He did not sin. "In thrall" means "a slave to." We humans are slaves to evil spirits (demons are angels that have fallen from grace). We are slaves to evil, because we are all sinners. But we are still one body in Christ, so it all makes sense. God forbid you read the signs, watch for meanings between the lines Gehenna has now arrived, no hindsight for the blind Meaning: This world is mankind's exile for having given in to original sin. Your trust has been misplaced, believed the lies told to your face Became another casualty and now it's too late Meaning: satan lies to us and tempts us, and we give in when we sin. God wanted us to be perfect, but we failed. Now we have to do it the hard way. You finally made it home Draped in the flag that you fell for Meaning: "Home" is earth. We will be buried in the earth when we die. We all sin because of earthly desires. We sinned and fell, for this "flag" of earthly desires, so we will be draped in earth (dirt) when we die. And so it goes The ashes of the wake It's only getting worse... Meaning: This should make perfect sense now. We are all dying. We just have to follow Jesus' teachings and die with Him to be redeemed. |

| Lamb of God – More Time to Kill Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Imagine having to let your son die for the sake of saving humanity. But at the same time, your son is really you. This is the story of God. I just got the news today you were dying. Hot Damn! Were already partying. But please, before you have to leave, Let me tell you a few last things. Meaning: Although Jesus' death is victory over evil, God is still in 3 forms. God the Father must allow God the Son to be crucified. God the Father must let His Son die. (God the Spirit comes later). God and His angels are only "partying" because they know Jesus will destroy evil with His sacrifice. Suffer, unto me Indulge, my every need. Meaning: God the Father feels horrible, but He must let God the Son die. He must give up His son for us (humanity). I don't want to meet you halfway I've always despised that fucking place. Meaning: Jesus (God the Son) is on earth, HALFWAY between heaven and hell. God the Father is in heaven. God knows what a horrible place earth is. Suffer, unto me Indulge my every need Meaning: Repeated meaning. God the Father feels bad for God the Son's painful death. I'm not offering you my way. I'm kicking you down the fucking highway. Meaning: God the Father feels terrible for having to let His Son die. I imagine God crying when He says this. Get one thing straight from the get go, I truly don't give a fuck about you I never have and I never will, each day you breathe is more time to kill. Meaning: At the same time, Jesus IS God, and God IS Jesus. God doesn't care about Himself! God is great! God ONLY cares about others. God is self-less (the exact opposite of selfish). Fuck Your World Up GOD DAMN Meaning: The Father can actually feel the Son's pain, because they are really one God. Even in the beginning, when He screams "Hot Damn", the Father feels the Son's physical pain. The Father struggles just as much as the Son. (this is why Randy screams "God Damn" so loud; he's portraying the pain). Your last breath, I'll take it now Meaning: The Son takes His last breath, and the Father takes His last breath. They both feel it. Your last breath, I'll rip it away And haunt your dreams in your final sleep Meaning: At the same time, the Father is allowing the Son to die, and seems to be crying in agony. Remember, Jesus cries "Father, why have you forsaken me!?" before He dies on the cross. The Father wants to save His Son, but He can't. They're both crying. Get one thing straight from the get go, I truly don't give a fuck about you. I never have and I never will, each day you breathe is more time to kill. I never have and I never will. Meaning: Once again, God is self-less (the exact opposite of selfish). God cares about us more than He cares about Himself, so He doesn't save Himself! God the Father and God the Son are one God (so is God the Spirit, but He comes after Jesus' death). God gives himself up to free us from sin. |

| Lamb of God – Resurrection #9 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Although Jesus feels the weakness of being human, He is God. He does not give in to evil. The devil is portrayed as a serpent. Jesus is God, and He experiences human feelings, including depression and self-loathing. However, He still has the strength to condemn evil and remain pure. This is Jesus' victory: staying free of sin and allowing Himself to be put to death even though He could have saved himself. | |
| Lamb of God – Vigil Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us, this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. |
|
| Lamb of God – Vigil Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
You have to know the "our Father" to understand this song. If you are unfamiliar with the Our Father prayer, please read my next post. Our Father thy will be done Meaning: Consult the Our Father prayer. I have denied this life its worth I will not be the victim Meaning: Jesus allows Himself to be crucified, because God's love is more important than life on earth. Sickness to you my master Here's to getting worse Hope it kills you faster Meaning: All of us are slaves to evil, because we are all sinners. Since Jesus is in human form, He addresses the devil as His "master." Jesus' sacrifice is a great victory over evil. Show me how it hurts to rot from the inside out Meaning: Jesus' lungs were crushed by the weight of His own body when He was crucified. He is basically saying "bring it on." This vigil burns Until the days our fires overtake you Meaning: Jesus is still addressing the devil. The Holy Spirit will inflame all of our hearts, and evil will be defeated, all thanks to Christ. Our Father we forsake you Blessed be his name Nothing now the same Meaning: "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name." Humanity put Jesus to death. The Our Father prayer reminds us that Jesus was forsaken by all of us sinners when He was on the cross. Jesus is telling us to pray like this. Yes, we (humanity) are sinners, but we can still proclaim God's name and believe in Him. Since Jesus is now at the right hand of the Father, we can pray the "Our Father" to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit interchangeably, which explains the line "nothing now the same." Ask me why I hate Why I've prayed to see the nation that I love disintegrate And gladly give my life That revolution regenerates Meaning: Humanity is flawed and slaves to evil. Jesus feels the weakness of the flesh, but does not give in. But humanity needed Jesus to give His life so that we could be freed from sin. Sin is slavery, so Jesus' sacrifice was really a revolution! It is a battle cry to destroy evil. We have hope. In honor of the strife of those who've died In generations before for your blood-stained glory Meaning: "Your blood-stained glory" is humanity's blood-stained glory. There have been a lot of people killed in wars and murder throughout history. People kill people for their own selfish glory. Jesus is destroying evil in honor of them. I reject you I deny you I defy you to continue Meaning: Jesus will not save us from death. We all have to experience the pain of death before we are saved and enter heaven. We must "take up our crosses" and follow Jesus. It is not easy, but we must! Smite the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered Meaning: Jesus is the shepherd, and we are His sheep. We must "scatter" and spread His word! |

| Lamb of God – In the Absence Of The Sacred Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| "In the Absense of the Sacred" - life without God. Without God, nothing makes sense. It's all just technology, evolution, violence, time, and material items that don't matter. All of this shit won't matter when we're dead. By following God, we have hope. | |
| Lamb of God – The Faded Line Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
First 3 lines: Jesus is telling us to witness Him carrying His cross. (He "denies" His accusers by not calling off His teachings that He is the son of God, so He is crucified). Next 4 lines: "hopeless" and "colorless" lines are obvious, because He is in pain. "Emptiness, of promises I made" refers to His missionary work that was left undone, and "so faithless, the tenants long betrayed" is Jesus' frustration with Himself (In the agony in the garden, He asked God the Father to let this cup pass from His lips; in other words, He did not want to be crucified). Next 2 lines: Jesus/God telling us to take up our crosses and follow Him in this life. He knows we aren't perfect, because He knows what it's like to be human. Next 5 lines: Wine. Alcohol numbs cuts, and gives "salvation in vice." Jesus, knowing His death is near, is going through the darkest time in His life. Jesus' blood is then poured out, symbolizing an "empty cup" of wine. Jesus shows devotion by allowing Himself to be crucified. Next 2 lines: Jesus' depression; His blood is "corrupted" with alcohol. (Remember they drank wine at the last supper). The rest repeats. Keep in mind that although Jesus is God, He is in human form. Therefore, He exhibits many human characteristics, like frustration, depression, and obviously pain. |

| Lamb of God – Laid to Rest Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The best way to follow Jesus is to "be" Jesus, living your life with Him as your model. Look at it as forsaking yourself for the sake of peace. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. FIRST 3 LINES: Jesus on the cross. He is God, but he still feels the pain of a human death. NEXT 4 LINES: We are all sinners. Jesus wants us to *FIGURATIVELY* kill ourselves, following His teachings and not our own. NEXT 4 LINES: NOT LITERALLY KILLING OURSELVES. Replacing our personalities with the personality of Jesus. Christ is telling us to do this. NEXT 4 LINES: If we die with Jesus, we are bound for heaven. All we have to do is replace our personality with that of Jesus, spreading his fragrance wherever we go. Final lines repeat (In the music video, at the end, Jesus, depicted as the guy in red, finally reaches the guy and touches his shoulder. The figure in red is gone, because he is now living through the guy he was chasing. It's just symbolism of replacing your personality with Jesus'). |

| Lamb of God – Redneck Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Jesus, speaking in the 1st person, wants us to follow Him. He wants us to embrace His teachings and follow Him. (this song is only called "Redneck" because of a couple of references in "Again We Rise"). FIRST 4 LINES: the state of humanity NEXT 3 LINES: Jesus is the Prince of Peace NEXT 4 LINES: Jesus' death on the cross was an invitation for us to join Him in heaven. NEXT 4 LINES: Jesus knows we all struggle with our faith at one point or another. NEXT 8 LINES: Repeated from earlier. You can tell the same lie a thousand times But it never gets any more true So close your eyes once more and once more believe That they all still believe in you Meaning: Jesus doesn't want us to lie to ourselves and not believe in Him. He wants us to have faith, and rejoice with all the angels and saints in heaven. |

| Lamb of God – 11th Hour Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
After the last supper (when Jesus and his apostles drank wine), and before His arrest, Jesus experienced the "Agony in the Garden". The hour of reckoning draws near Judgment day is here and gone Sweetly she draws me into her arms A liquid embrace to chase the day way. Meaning: Jesus' agony in the garden. Sedate Numb Deaf and Dumb Stumbling into solitude. A clouded judgment day is fueled. Meaning: Jesus' apostles fell asleep on Him. Because He is God, He knows his death is coming. He is sad, because his closest friends seem to have abandoned Him. Take me under your black wings Mark my words and remember me. Meaning: Jesus is addressing us as individuals. Although we are sinners, we should "mark His words" and remember His teachings. So sweetly she shucks away at my time So sweetly she draws me nigh Closer and closer towards never ending sleep Spin the bottle Kiss only the bottle. Meaning: Jesus is so depressed. (Remember they drank wine at the Last Supper). The dark mistress of many, beholden to none Slips a ring of needles around your arm in an engagement Eternal engagement Never consummated. Meaning: This is different. Jesus is now warning us against evil. The devil is always trying to tempt us. Being in human form, Jesus experienced these temptations first-hand. Take me under your black wings Mark my words and remember me. Meaning: Repeated from earlier. Destroyer of senses. So take as needed for the pain Another gray morning dawns across an ashen sky. Meaning: Remember they drank wine at the Last Supper. My sweet demoness beckons me Ever again and again and again and again. Meaning: Jesus set the perfect example of a human life. Even up to the final moments of his life, he was being tempted to sin. He never gives in! The dark mistress of many, beholden to none My sweet demoness beckons me Ever again and again and again and again and again. Meaning: Jesus knows how hard it is not to sin. He never gives in though! Praise be to God. Take me under your black wings. Jacked up on the taste of self-destruction. Meaning: The wages of sin is death. (Jesus died for us and rose again, defeating death). |

Please allow me to revise this interpretation. It is Jesus' last thoughts; He is sad, but He perseveres. FIRST 4 LINES: Jesus willingly accepts his death. NEXT 3 LINES: Jesus on his cross. He knew this was coming. He was "all ears" the whole time. NEXT 5 LINES: Jesus accepts that his body is being broken for humanity. His mouth will soon be full of dirt when he's buried. St. Peter denied Him 3 times, thus "locking the gates" on Him figuratively (Jesus forgives all, which is why Peter is the rock on which the Church was built). NEXT 3 LINES: Repeated from earlier. ENDING: Describing humanity in general. First four lines describe how violent the human race is. Jesus is sad that we are like this. Final four lines (from "free speech for the living" on) is Jesus telling us humans to proclaim His name while we are alive, because our sinful ways will be cleansed through death. So we should "sing for Jesus". |

| Lamb of God – Again We Rise Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
You're right, this song has a much more positive message. 1. The first 8 lines address someone who does not give to charity. The person or persons hoard wealth for themselves and don't give a damn about anyone else's hardships. 2. The chorus proclaims that we will rise to a new life in heaven by practicing acts of kindness and charity. 3. These next 8 lines discuss how early Christians were killed for their faith. It's easy in comparison to give money to charity. Imagine having to cross off dead Christian friends and relatives from a list. 4. Chorus repeats 5. The next four lines address the fact that we are all one body in Christ. We should fight against evil. We should not fight human to human. 6. The next 8 lines plead with people to practice faith and kindness by donating some of their money to feed the hungry and give shelter to the homeless. Faith is what will save all of us. -Try listening to the song with these basic points in mind. The pleading, desperate nature of the song should jump out at you. The world needs more love. |

| Lamb of God – Again We Rise Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
The Tucson shooting opened my eyes to this one. Gun-toting right-wingers are being condemned in this song. People shouldn't be allowed to buy guns. Nothing good can come from owning a gun. store-bought additude and spit a sugar-coated piece of shit Meaning: it's easy to act tough when you're strapped with a gat. an instant rebel, just add greed another useless commodity Meaning: right-wingers seem to feel the need to "protect" themselves from the federal govt. by owning guns. the useless commodity is the weapon itself. broken glass and a broken jaw lies are told in a southern drawl Meaning: drive-by shootings. lying about it and trying to get away with it. poor-house poverty's your shtick the real thing would kill you quick Meaning: if you're against higher taxes (because you're supposedly too poor to pay them), then how can you afford a commodity like a gun? Rise, again we will rise Meaning: if you focus on being a good Christian, you will go to heaven. blood and fire used to fill the night burnt and drowned by our very lives Meaning: either the civil war, the KKK, or both. you missed a sinking boat by years dollar signs, crocodile tears Meaning: the civil war happened so long ago; "rebel motherfuckers," as Randy puts it, still wave around the confederate flag. Going back to higher taxes, rich right-wingers fake outrage when they have to pay a few dollars more. its over now and long has been those days are gone wont come again Meaning: the civil war happened 150 years ago. there won't be another. another name crossed off the list the real thing would kill you quick Meaning: going back to guns. if you pull that trigger, you will cross a name off the list of life forever. Rise, again we will rise there's nothing for you to fight against you're so unreal its evident Meaning: just be a good Christian damnit. you'll never be one of our kind this aint yours, fuck you dont try Meaning: reverse psychology to get people to believe in God. this bridge was burnt before you could cross you reap the benefits of whats lost Meaning: if you kill someone, you are burning a bridge forever. go home son, hang your costume up a goddamn insult to the rest of us Meaning: get rid of your gun. a thousand-yard stare across the south a full belly and a lying mouth Meaning: pretty self explanatory. momma's boy plays heretic the real thing would kill you quick Meaning: hold onto your faith in God. Rise, again we will rise there's nothing for you to fight against you're so unreal its evident Meaning: we're all one body in Christ. there really is nothing to fight against. you'll never be one of our kind this aint yours, fuck you dont try Meaning: reverse psychology to get people to believe in God. fuck you, dont even try fuck you, your time is nigh fuck you, i've had enough fuck you, your time is up Meaning: more reverse psychology. |

| Lamb of God – Omerta Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both For a wounded man shall say to his assailant: "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven." Such is the rule of honor. Meaning: Jesus taught forgiveness; He taught turning the other cheek. This opening speech portrays humanity's itch for revenge. People only seem to forgive when they are dead or dying. This is a poor excuse for honor. Broken the paradigm an example must be set Invoke the siren's song and sign the death warrant This is what has been wrought for 30 pieces of silver The tongues of men and angels bought by a beloved betrayer Meaning: Jesus' teachings shattered the old paradigm; His message was so revolutionary and groundbreaking that the authorities were out to get Him, and He was sold out by one of His closest followers. Jesus accepts the fact that "an example must be set." He sets a perfect example of turning the other cheek by allowing himself to be crucified, one of the most painful ways to be put to death ever invented. Christianity really took off after Jesus was crucified, because people heard the whole story of how He didn't fight back (even though He could have) and how He rose again afterward. All of this was initiated by "a beloved betrayer." I am the result, what's better left unspoken Violence begins to mend what's broken You've been talking, I've been all ears Meaning: first two lines: Jesus being crucified. last line: Jesus addressing Judas. Since Jesus is the Son of God, He hears all and sees all. He knew the exact moment when He was being betrayed by Judas. Words meant to dwell in darkness shall never see the light of day Words can be broken, so can bones Execute the mandate Mouth full of dirt, your name removed from the registry St. Peter greets with empty eyes then turns and locks the gates Meaning: this is all directed toward Judas. worth noting is that Jesus' bones are being broken because of Judas' broken promise to follow Jesus as his Lord. By "execute the mandate" Jesus is basically giving himself up, telling the authorities to do what must be done. The final two lines are Judas' final fate. (second stanza repeats) Cheaply venal, stupidly verbose A slip of the tongue, a slit of the throat Six feet under with no marker Keep my name from your mouth forever Free speech for the living, dead men tell no tales Your laughing finger will never point again Meaning: Judas' slip of the tongue lead to the death of Jesus. This is all directed towards Judas. It is my understanding that Jesus is the speaker, and that He is being crucified throughout the entirety of the song. |

i take back my last post. i was only scratching the surface. after ruin opened my eyes to how religious these guys really are, this one hit me like a ton of bricks. while the first two lines still apply, the only plan for "revolt" is to wait in joyful hope for our ascension into heaven. in the music video, the background is white, signifying purgatory. any hardships endured in this life will mean nothing when God initiates the final judgement. since heaven lasts forever and this life is so relatively short (70-80 years or so), it only makes sense to rejoice and have faith. |
|
| Lamb of God – 11th Hour Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| yes, this is a drinking song. however there is more to it than that. it's about being depressed because of how fucked up the world is. the speaker has an extremely negative outlook of the world and tries his best to explain the reasons why he drinks. it's also about being lonely. however, in other songs of theirs (like ruin for example) isolation is depicted as not that bad, because you can get closer to God and pray. if you watch the music video there are definitely Christian images. | |
| Lamb of God – Now You've Got Something To Die For Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| if you accept Christ as your savior you will have "something to die for." watch the music video where john holds up a picture of Jesus. the parts about war in the middle east just make a point of how we (as Americans) don't have anything to die for unless we hold onto our faith in God. | |

| Lamb of God – Laid to Rest Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| ruin1995 is right. however, the person being murdered is dying, not already dead. and he's experiencing a very slow and painful death (there is blood AND suffocation involved; the beginning and end have the same lines, so he is dying throughout the entirety of the song.) murder is being condemned in this song. to make it more powerful and personal, and to paint a picture of how evil murder is, randy put himself in the shoes of someone who is being killed. the ending scream is him finally being laid to rest after all the torture involved. | |
| Lamb of God – Grace Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Adding to my previous comment, I think this song is actually written from the point of view of the priest who is being burned on the cover of their Burn The Priest album. it all fits. especially the "read the story on my skin." his faith is so strong that he can withstand the flames and pray to God as he is dying. he accepts being put to death in a very public way (just like Jesus was put to death in a very public way.) thus he is "being the martyr, falling from his grace again." | |
| Lamb of God – Ruin Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Mystery Avenger, I disagree. While obviously not all their songs are about religion, it does play a central part in their image as a band. If you used to be called Burn the Priest, and then Change your name to Lamb of God, religion must be a central part of your message. That being said, LOG are "for religion." You probably don't believe me, which is fine. I'm just sharing my opinion. | |
| Lamb of God – Walk with Me in Hell Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song describes how satan is always trying to tempt us to follow him instead of God. The speaker is essentially warning people that satan is a liar and a deceiver, tricking people into "taking hold" of his hand and descending into hell with him. Pray for blood Pray for the cleansing Pray for the flood Pray for end of this nightmare This lie of a life can as quickly as it came dissolve Meaning: it doesn't matter what you pray for, as long as it is genuine and from the heart. if you are at your wit's end and going through really dark times in your life, talk to God. life is short, and before you know it you'll be dead and then what? At least if you talk to God there is hope in life. We seek only reprieve And welcome the darkness The myth of a meaning, so lost and forgotten Meaning: we (referring to non-believers who are growing in numbers, esp. in U.S.) are only delaying the final punishment by God for our sins after death. non-believers only care about having a good time in this life; they could care less about God. The meaning and importance of religion has been lost and forgotten in our society. Take hold of my hand For you are no longer alone Walk with me in hell Meaning: this is satan speaking. satan manifests himself in ways that seem inviting to people. if you take satan's hand, you are destined to walk with him in hell. Pray for solace Pray for resolve Pray for a savior Pray for deliverance Some kind of purpose, a glimpse of a light in this void of existence Meaning: same as first stanza. more things to pray for. (remember that it doesn't matter What you pray for as long as you are being honest with God and reaching out to Him.) if you reach out to God, you will be granted a glimpse of hope in this life (referred to here as "light".) Oh... Now witness the end of an age Hope dies in hands of believers Who seek the truth in the liar's eyes Meaning: describing how people these days are choosing satan over God. once they "take hold" of satan's hand, all hope dies. they have been fooled by satan. satan is the liar. Take hold of my hand For you are no longer alone Walk with me in hell Meaning: this is satan himself speaking. if you take hold of his hand and deny God, you are destined to go to hell. "You're never alone" is still satan talking. he's still trying to trick us into following him instead of God. This is probably the heaviest song ever written. |

| Lamb of God – Ruin Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Also, why would these hispanic people sit there and actually Listen to Lamb of God play if they didn't like their message?! Although they start out skeptical, they all stay, and are all visibly moved in some way or another by the performance. The woman in the music video wants to rub off her make-up and take off her clothes because she realizes she doesn't need them. she only wears make-up and really nice clothes because she is trying to be accepted by others. she realizes that "this is the art of ruin," so she wants to take them off. the young guy headbanging is obvious: he walks into the church alone at the very beginning of the music video. why would he go to church AND headbang to Lamb of God, if Lamb of God were talking shit about his religion? The older woman praying the rosary doesn't even leave! She sees the performance as a genuine proclamation of faith, so she continues to pray with everybody else. | |

corporations drive down costs by taking power away from the workers. this is done by only training them to do low-skill jobs. if the workers learn jobs that require a lot of training and lots of skill, the corporation has a hard time replacing them (thus they have to pay a higher salary to keep them). so they (the corporations) pay cheap ass salaries by keeping the workers "enslaved" as low-skill laborers. however, we (Americans) still own stock in these corporations, so we are the fools who are pacified, gagged, etc. The fiends have gagged a generation of pacified fools Bound by our greed a nation enslaved as corporate tools. Meaning: read my intro paragraph for this one. Arise and raze the legacy of their lies To realize that this in itself is an ascension Meaning: corporations have the money, so they control the media. they have essentially "bought" a legacy that portrays them as good. the first step is exposing these fuckers. Towards the day we revolt. Meaning: we are going to revolt. it is inevitable. As the seeds you've cast away take hold War will be born. Meaning: corporations can breeze through employees very easily. rather than taking 2 weeks or a month to train a new person, they can easily train another low-skilled worker in a day or two without losing money. thus they continuously fire people (casting away seeds) and get new people to do the job. eventually these cast away seeds will push back. Rejoice, the age of the fall has begun We'll dance as the palaces burn. Meaning: there's some rich motherfuckers in this country who are at the top. the top 5 percent of the population has all the money. they own palaces. we're coming for them. A shot gun blast into the face of deceit You'll gain your just reward. Meaning: this is the fiends' just reward for what they've done- a shot gun blast in the face. We'll not rest until the purge is complete You will reap what you've sewn. Meaning: we must purge these fiends. they have gotten away with keeping all the wealth for themselves and their families while keeping everyone else held down in society. My redemption lies in your demise. Meaning: violence is sin. however, the speaker accepts the fact that violent war is the only way to bring about these fiends' demise. he will be redeemed and forgiven once the task is done. In such a world as this does one dare to think for himself? The paradox of power and peace will destroy itself Meaning: low-skilled workers in corporations are trained to not ask too many questions and not "rock the boat." thus they let their boss think for them and control them. there is peace at home (obviously not abroad), but a select few still have all the power. this imbalance of power is going to fucking explode into war sooner or later. To know the truth and live in fear of no man. To realize that this in itself is an ascension Meaning: don't be afraid to stand up for your rights as a worker. don't be afraid to rock the boat for fear of being fired by "the man." this is the second step (the first one was exposing the fiends' lies). Toward the day we revolt. Meaning: sooner or later the revolt is coming. The rest repeats itself. this song is so applicable to the present day it's incredible. corporations don't give a fuck about you. |

| Lamb of God – Grace Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Broken, Bones and the will. Capacity to disappear in misery saves. Meaning: he is in severe pain. what saves him is his ability to lose himself in thought. Soaking, Pain as a thrill, Hate to instill. Compassion's a cage. Meaning: description of whoever is inflicting this pain. this implies the speaker is being tortured. Forgiving the father. Read the story on my skin. Meaning: not blaming God for the pain that must be endured. pleading God to look down favorably on him in this time of suffering. I'll be the martyr. Falling from his grace again. Meaning: following in Jesus' footsteps in martyrdom. not falling from God's grace, but falling from his own grace (just a "fall from grace"). Sunken, sooner or later. We crawl our way back into our favorite hole. Meaning: acknowledging that we (Christians) prefer to bury our bodies in a place that's meaningful to us after we die. Drunken, swallow the savior, And follow him to hang him from the highest pole. Meaning: acknowledging that we (Christians) receive Christ through the Eucharist (bread and wine). Jesus died for our sins by hanging on a pole until his lungs were crushed by his own weight. Forgiving the father. Read the story on my skin. Meaning: not blaming God for the unbearable pain. once again asking God to look down favorably on him. Tell me more about the man I should have been. Meaning: imagine being tortured and screaming this at the person who is torturing you. fuck yeah. I'll be the martyr. Falling from his grace again. Meaning: following in Jesus' footsteps in martyrdom. It is basically a final prayer. Hence the title "Grace" (say grace before a meal, etc.) |

| Lamb of God – Fake Messiah Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Someone (their friend) is telling or asking him to say his God is fake. He basically says fuck you, refuses to renounce his faith, and mocks the other person in the process. He sounds fucking pissed as well, which accounts for the crazy way he screams "fake messiah." Everything you've ever begged me to be Could never have meant any less to me. Meaning: this person wants randy to say his God is fake, but randy believes the exact opposite. Everything you've ever asked me to say It's so far away from the truth. Meaning: same as first two lines. randy starts sounding more pissed off. So far away from the truth. So far away. Meaning: randy believes in God. renouncing his faith would be "so far away from the truth." Fake Messiah Meaning: this is what his friend wanted him to say. he's ONLY saying this to mock his friend. Stitches sewn in your eyes. Meaning: his friend is fucking blind. Fake Messiah Meaning: saying it to mock his friend again. Prophecy now denied. Meaning: his friend has denied Jesus, which randy refuses to do. Over and over and ever again Defending your insignificance. Meaning: People who talk most about religion these days are non-believers. They constantly bring up religion and say how wrong it is. it sounds like they're "defending" their "insignificance." randy is still calling out his friend. Useless intent hidden behind your mask A coward's voice anonymous. Meaning: since most non-believers don't believe in an afterlife, they don't "have" to be a good person because they won't be judged by a god after death. thus their intentions are questionable. his non-believing friend is an anonymous coward, because saying you don't believe in any religion or any organized religion at all is taking the easy way out. So far away from the truth. So far away. Meaning: what randy's friend is saying (and wants randy to say as well) is "so far away from the truth." Fake Messiah Meaning: mocking his friend. Stitches sewn in your eyes Meaning: saying his friend is blind. Fake Messiah Meaning: mocking his friend. Prophecy now denied Meaning: his friend is denying Jesus. Fake Messiah Meaning: mocking his friend. Open mouth, drawing flies Meaning: still mocking his friend. he sounds fucking pissed. (his friend is saying Jesus died and never resurrected). Fake Messiah Meaning: mocking his friend. Prophecy now denied Meaning: his friend is denying Jesus. Generation failure suspended in irrelevance. Meaning: lots of people in this generation are non-believers who are suspended in irrelevance. Slit you wide open Just to see what you're made of Meaning: he is directly challenging these non-believers. So far away from the truth. Meaning: he is fucking pissed because they're so wrong. The chorus is repeated again. Notice how he screams Messiah towards the end. He screams Messiah first. He believes in Jesus. |

| Lamb of God – Ruin Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song is written by an outcast, talking to a fellow outcast or outcasts. Lamb of God are outcasts because they get a bad reputation as being satanists or sacreligious. The church congregation in the music video are outcasts as well, because it is only a small Catholic community hearing the mass in Spanish. Randy is NOT calling out these people, he is pumping them up. They are fellow Christians. The knowledge that seeking the favor of another means the murder of self. Meaning: basic church doctrine. seek God's favor alone. This is the resolution The end of all progress The death of evolution It bleeds all life away. Meaning: trying to be accepted is the end of all progress and the death of evolution. trying to be accepted bleeds all life away, because it distracts you from more important things in life. Silence speeds the path to the streams of solace that run so few and narrow. Brooks that babble the sounds of torture. Meaning: accepting being an outcast allows you to enjoy the moments in life that truly matter. rather than being caught up in trivial bullshit, you spend your time with family, God, etc. these "brooks" or "streams" (which mean the same exact thing, look it up) make life worth living, because they keep your mind off how fucked up life really is (referring to the "torture"). You will one day rise To flood the banks of the chosen. Meaning: if small streams provide happiness in this life, then the happiness in Heaven is described as this water flooding the river banks. in the music video this is where the hispanic man rises up with randy, because he's fucking pumped. they believe the same thing. even the priest. at first he seemed nervous about Lamb of God, but then there are images that show how him and randy are both "preaching" (the slow motion crazy shit). This is the art of ruin. Meaning: trying to be accepted is the art of ruin. This is the resolution The end of all progress The death of evolution It bleeds all life away. Meaning: this is the result of trying to be accepted. I will show you all that I have mastered Fear. Pain. Hatred. Power. Meaning: these four are the downfall of so many people, yet randy is not affected by any of these things. since he's accepted being an outcast, he's allowed himself to "let go" of fear, pain, hatred, and power. This is the art of ruin. Meaning: trying to be accepted is the art of ruin. Just watch the music video looking for these meanings and you'll see it. |
