I didn't bother reading through most of the comments, but I'm sure someone along the way hit the nail on the head. There is nothing in the song that indicates infidelity whatsoever. It's a song about two people who were deeply in love, and never fully moved on. She calls him probably because her bf/husband was being an idiot and knows that her ex always knew the right things to say. The fact that neither of their present lovers knows about the call does not mean they are cheating, it's just saving themselves from a needless argument, jealousy, or thoughts of infidelity. There is also the fact that a great relationship that ended of no fault of their own leaves a hole, that nobody else in the world can fill, and more often than not, their current lover knows about. Anyone who has been in a relationship like that knows this, and any of those who claim they didn't wish their current girl/guy was their ex from time to time is full of it. The prechorus and chorus is pretty obvious, the stark realization that they aren't over each other, but considering whatever circumstances they are currently in, they can't do anything about it. The line, "But girl you make it hard to be faithful..." speaks for itself, it's hard for him to be faithful when he's reminiscing with the one that got away. Sadly, as many who have read this post may have guessed, I have gone through this, and yes, it's the hardest thing in the world to live with, and it's something that will never go away. |
