Way to go man, great interpretation. Check out another one of his songs called "It will follow the rain" and tell me what you think it means.

The Tallest Man on Earth – It Will Follow the Rain Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about Moses leading the slaves out of egypt.

Have you ever seen the quiet indecision of a man,
when he's standing by the fire,
with an eager friend in his hand,
oh, will he ever quite understand,
-(Moses was in the desert when God came as a fire and gave him a staff "an eager friend". He thought he was going crazy and didnt believe at first thus the "indecision of a man.")

Have you ever seen the locusts,
clean his wings right after a plague,
like descendin' of a dark cloud,
dim the sunlight to end the day,
to kill the sunlight to end the day,
- (One of the Ten plagues of Egypt were locusts descending on egypt like "a dark cloud" and killing all the crops.)

Have you ever seen the far side of a mountain,
swallow the sky,
as you travel through the valley,
as your speedin' still far behind,
through the valley where lovers climb,
where the children will blink and sigh,
they have caught a lightning strike,
in a jar just to watch it die,
in the valley where lovers climb,
-( I think the "Far side of the Mountain, swallow the sky" is talking about when moses parted the Red Sea for all the women and children to pass through and escape the egyptians.)

Have you ever seen your baby,
getting caught by the lonesome wind,
and the whistlin' around the corners,
telling you they have let her in,
separation can now begin,
-(Moses' true mother set him adrift in a river for she couldnt take care of him, thus the "whistlin around the corners" -(is of the river)" and the "Separation can now begin" -(is the separation of the mother son relationship).

This song kicks ass
