Colin Hay – I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You Lyrics 14 years ago
When I needed this song most, I found it. Saw Colin play live a few months ago, and although he didn't play this tune, he put on a hell of a show, and is quite funny live.

All that aside, I agree with the comments about the simplicity of the song, and it's subtle sweetness. I recently separated from "the one", she is my soulmate, and we are going through a difficult time right now. It's funny how it's the simple things, in the small moments, that I find myself missing her most. The first lines, first verse capture that beautifully and painfully...

"I drink good coffee, every morning. Comes from a place that's far away. And when I'm done, I feel like talking. Without you here, there is less to say..."

I've lived that line over and over for the past couple weeks. We used to share a cup of coffee in the morning before starting our day... we had some of our best conversations on those mornings. Now, when I have a cup in the morning... there is far less to say...

Great song Colin... thank you for writing it and sharing it with the world.

Yeasayer – I Remember Lyrics 15 years ago
I have someone "stuck in my mind" right now too, and this song is the perfect accompaniment for that emotion.

That wicked, haunting falsetto at the end of the second verse - "Even when you're gone your eyes running through my head
woah", it always gets me... I love it, incredible song!

Silversun Pickups – Draining Lyrics 15 years ago
Not sure about the interpretation, but I definitely prefer these lyrics - "We'll leave it alone, We'll leave it that's when we start repeating" - makes quite a bit more sense than "We're leaving lord, A leaving that's where we start repeating."

Silversun Pickups – It's Nice to Know You Work Alone Lyrics 15 years ago
So... let me get this right. According to the majority of people posting in this forum, nearly all of the songs on this album have either to do with the government/politics or relationships?? I'm a fan of SSPU for a number of reasons, one of which is their creativity, and while I don't entirely disagree with all of the interpretations of their lyrics, it is somewhat laughable that these are the only two categories that the interpretations fall into.

With that said - cheers to sinical1 for breaking up the monotony and sharing a unique interpretation - there certainly is something of a post-coital thing going on when Brian says "Sit back and breathe, It's nice to know you work alone, My head is reeling". And then "With water marks on a pillowcase," - could this be from sweat rather than from tears?

"With all the nerves turned on, on,
Overriding the obsession,
To take it all and be on my way,
Dragging the lead along, along."

Nerves revved up to max, as during sex, and the phrase "turned on" is a bit direct. "Dragging the lead along" conjures an image of a guy who feels that he is something of an animal (as in dog lead), used or using the other person, and then is on his way, but is happy to know that the other person doesn't need him to "reach the serene". Sounds a bit like the feeling of orgasm, and "my head's stopped reeling." sounds like release. It doesn't even need to be about a relationship - just good old fashioned sex.

Now, it may not be the one and only interpretation, but it has the virtue of having nothing to do with governments or breakups...

Silversun Pickups – Growing Old Is Getting Old Lyrics 15 years ago
This isn't a necessarily a lyric correction, I could be wrong - it sounds like Brian is saying "Maybe your only vices" instead of "Maybe your own devices", and again later when he says "And put out your own devices", it sounds more like "And put out your only vices".

As I said, I may be wrong, but that is what it sounds like upon repeated listenings. Either way - incredible song - and that minor lyric hardly alters the meaning of the whole. Any thoughts?
