I've been a big fan of Linkin Park ever since the beginning. I still think Hybrid Theory and Meteora are great. Although I see big differences between the two albums. The style of the two albums is not the same, at that time I already felt Linkin Park was evolving their music. The first two albums were most likely made with a lot of pressure from the record company. On the album of Mike's other project, Fort Minor, there's a song which refers to the fact that the record company said a rock band can't have two lead singers. That said, I think it's obvious that in the last two albums Chester and Mike have more equal lyrics compared to the first two albums. Anyway, LP has evolved, their music changed, but I don't feel they lost their identity. Both M2M and A Thousand Suns breathe LP from the very first note. A sideline note, I have to admit I was surprised when I heard ATS. Because between M2M and ATS was A New Divide which sounded very old school LP. I, at that time, thought they'd go back to HT style. Luckily they didn't, although I think New Divide is a great song as well. |

IMHO I think Empty Spaces refers to the losses during war and perhaps even because of the atom bomb, since the songs before empty spaces refer to that. The people that die during a war leave empty spaces, giving title to the song which is filled with battlefield sounds. |
