Interpol – All of the Ways Lyrics 15 years ago
um, i think it's "tween neophyte". that makes a bit more sense.

i think this song is about a a guy with a submissive lover who has found someone else. i don't think this is a simple, vanilla relationship we're dealing with here. sounds like he is not only jealous, but he's pretty damn sure the girl cannot get the same satisfaction and intimacy with the "tween neophyte" that she does with him.

whether it's "does he leave you to the flame or fire", it's referring to some sort of pleasurable pain. and "does he know all of the ways you will make it up for me" refers to the girl's 'punishment' or certain things she will have to do to redeem his favor in the end. asking 'does he know?' sounds like he's asking her if the other guy understands the type of relationship they have.

don't know if any of that makes sense..

Interpol – Barricade Lyrics 15 years ago
I think in addition to addressing an emotionally troubling relationship, this song has heavy political/social commentary (I could not lean on the politics). The two aspects are linked together through this notion of a 'barricade': something keeping two lovers from being together and something that keeps society barricaded from the truth.

'full speed/half blind...full tilt decline' describes society being blinded by media, maybe government, and the nature of human emotion. We're traveling full speed but cannot see everything and this leads to a decline...a breakdown in understanding and the ability to love.
