Taylor Swift – Mean Lyrics 15 years ago
"oh hush. ugh"

What a cutting argument, I'm glad you took the the time to type that out.

And Nicole, I think you mean "compare", not "contradict". I don't see how your first point differs from what I said, but as for the second, I think it's perfectly fair to call someone a hypocrite when they champion an anti-bully message in one song and then proceed to rip another girl's character and reputation to shreds in the next. If that's considered "treating others with respect", then yikes.

I'm a big Taylor fan, by the way. I will just never be able to get behind this song.

"I bet you got pushed around. Somebody made you cold, but the cycle ends right now 'cause you can't lead me down that road."

One minute later:
"All you are is mean, and a liar, and PATHETIC, and alone in life."

*sigh* You know, sometimes I believe that she doesn't really think these things through. Because that line is...yeah, just a tad hypocritical. Plus, considering "Better Than Revenge" and "Speak Now", I'd venture to say that she does wander down that road every once in awhile. Granted, so does everyone else in the world...but they at least acknowledge it. Admittedly though, the song is fun, and the line about she can't sing actually made me burst out laughing the first time I heard it. lol. This girl's got a lot of nerve.

Taylor Swift – Better Than Revenge Lyrics 15 years ago
I liked this song better the first time I heard it...it was called "Misery Business" back then.

I love Taylor, but between this, "You Belong With Me", and "Speak Now", she's starting to become a serious offender in the "girl-on-girl crime" department. Not cool. And really, how are you going to put a song like this and "Mean" on the same album?

Taylor Swift – Fifteen Lyrics 15 years ago
I think you should stop reading Autostraddle. First of all, Abigail is her best friend, so there is no "slut-shaming" going on here. The entire message of the song can be summed up in one line: "In your life you'll do things greater things than dating the boy on the football team, but I didn't know it at fifteen." The bridge further expands upon this idea. Taylor never explicitly stated that Abigail lost her virginity to this boy. That was your interpretation (...or rather, Marie Lyn Bernard's interpretation, since it seems you are incapable of forming your own opinion). When I first heard that line, I took "everything" to mean that Abigail devoted herself entirely to this guy. She gave him all of her love, attention, trust-- and yes, possibly even her virginity, only to abruptly discover that the feelings weren't mutual. Taylor had a similar experience: she felt so in love with a guy that she pictured them spending the rest of their lives together, but, like Abigail, was dumped when he grew bored with her. Hence why they "both cried". They were used by people they cared a great deal about. OF COURSE that hurts. Eventually they realized that these things weren't the end of the world. But if you're looking for any excuse to fuel your Taylor hatred, by all means, continue you to think that she was condemning that ~evil slut Abigail~ because she lost her precious virginity, as opposed to simply commentating on the trials that impressionable high-school girls face. Nevermind the fact she and Abigail remain best friends to this day, and that she heard the song beforehand and even agreed to appear in the music video, so she is obviously fine with her portrayal.
