Well, all I can say is There is an irony in someone who constantly reshapes and remoulds herself in the public's eye to say that we are 'born this way' Gaga isn't stupid, she knows full well she was not 'born this way' She can be whoever she wants to be, and that is the point entirely. |

Basically conclusion the narrator comes to is existential, even Nieschean ‘Thus spake … etc’. And so if that’s the case you might as well ‘go to the concert, run off with a dancer’ because all you have got and the most you can be is ‘to be’, and that is the same for everyone. There’s also a line in there about ‘when the promise breaks’, and this is an intra-textual reference to most of the content of the album. Ie religion, alternative views of reality, science fiction etc offer promises that tempt you to think you can escape from the never ending cycle of life. But it is false hope. Then again hope can and must exist because by connecting hope to ‘being’ you can really truly make the most of life by choosing ‘to be’ For eg, compare the first song with the last song. First song, an alternative reality powers you up to escape, be a star, lion of Judah on your motorbike, roar etc. Last song, by ‘being’ you can see a star born …. |

| In a directors cut version of Bloddbuzz Ohio from their Brooklyn concert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDwgoseV3NY&feature=channel) Matt states that he thinks misinterpreted lyrics are often more meaningful than the true ones. And when you discover the truth it often detracts from their original meaning for you, the listener. So in this sense, I believe the point I'm making is that he doesn't really care if you think it is "notion" or "ocean" they are both equally true. I do believe he often manipulates language to make it sound like it could be interpreted in multiple ways, and that's the point. | |
