Yeah, I totally agree (mainly because I am a Libertarian Socialist). Lots of Radiohead's songs delve into the sickness we call modern society and clearly it is something Thom Yorke is motivated by. And your interpretation really makes sense. The last four tracks sound very natural compared to the first four. This gives it a kind of realisation to what humanity really is without consumerism, materialism, capitalism and other arguably negative influences on society. Good work, bro. |

This song, like with the whole theme of OK Computer delves into the current sickness of our modern society. It definitely seems like Thom Yorke is writing this song from a very Left Libertarian (anarchist) perspective. "A heart that fills up like a landfill, a job that slowly kills you". These lyrics are pointing towards the fact that we are all forced to get jobs and participate in our system as a kind of slave. It also indicates just how there should be more to life than simply working jobs we hate to merely survive. "Such a pretty house and sunshine" this is the dream life that everybody wants and a kind of utopian vision of what life can be. Once again suggesting how life should be more than the car you drive and how our current system is keeping us fighting for survival when we could be really enjoying life. |
