| I didn't really make my point clear before-she wants him to kill himself because she thinks he deserves better than what he can ever have in his life. She says "away from people who never treat you like they should." | |

I'd like to say I can't believe nobody's commented on this yet, but in fact I can believe it. Too bad, I love this song. The meaning seems obvious:she's telling her lover to go and do something good with his life, rather than stay in the bad place(whether an actual town or something emotional to do with their families) they are in now. But, I have another take on it: her lover is going to kill himself to get away. Sounds far fetched, but consider this: She sees him standing on a high ledge overlooking water and forests-"go honey go Into the ocean" and "In the woods or in the ice and snow" all the lines about the town-exactly like they sound. "you can hide away for when everything goes wrong"-if he's dead he won't be there the next time things get worse "You've really nowhere else to go"-she knows he doesn't have any family or friends anywhere else and their lives are mess where they are. I think the night before she told him to leave their messed up lives and he said he doesn't have anywhere to go. The next day she follows him along a trail to find him standing at the edge of the ridge over beautiful scenery. She knows what he is about to do and wants to stop him, but then remembers the night before, thinks, and realizes he will be happier if he does it. She is now begging him silently to go into the unknown(death/the afterlife) because things won't get better where they are. |

| The Birthday Massacre – The Dream Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| So I have two interpretations of this song. I like to not be set on one meaning of the song. Anyway, I think I like the first one better. Either way, its set in the past before airplanes were invented.1: a little girl dreams of building a flying machine. She researches and draws plans. But "It", which I think is sort of the center of humanity and people on the Earth, says people were not meant to fly. A little girl will not be the first to do it. They tell her to give up, but eventually she builds it. She hesitates, then launches the aircraft. It works and she flies it over clouds, and she is finally happy.2: a little girl dreams of truly flying, soaring through the air. It, same thing as before, tells her it can't be done. Her parents die or some other tragedy occours and she is bullied at school and told to give up her dream, but she only thinks about it more. One day she is standing on a cliff and thinks that maybe it can't be done. Then she realizes the only way to know is to try. She jumps, and in her mind she is soaring. After she dies she is "above clouds" meaning far away from all the people before, and of course mo one can find her now. She is finally away from everyone in her life, and remembering the soaring feeling as she jumped, she finally feels happy. | |
