| Florence + the Machine – Caught Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
Oh she is so in love and so doesn't want to be! She's 'caught' -- someone has so thoroughly captured her attention she "can't keep calm" and "can't keep still". In spite of everything she knows through wisdom and experience, it's still taking all of her effort not to reach out and call this person. The only time she's not consumed with thoughts of this other person is when she's asleep. "As if the dream of you, it sleeps too" And yet it still pulls at her when she's awake. Really wonderful song that captures the all consuming nature of love when it first begins. |

| Florence + the Machine – Make Up Your Mind Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
"Let me leave or let me love you". The singer is trying to end a relationship, but every time they come close, the other person does something to make them change their mind. But whatever it is that they do, the singer still longs for more from them. "While you've been saving you neck I've been breaking mine for you" She is trying her hardest to save their relationship but the other person is going to have to do something soon or else she'll leave. "Make up you mind Before I make it up for you." The other person needs to truly decide to be with her--to fully commit. Or else she'll have to end the relationship b/c she's at the end of her rope with it. Great song! |

Obsessive love can be destructive--for both the object and the person whose life has become consumed with love. Falling in love with someone can often feel like the death of the self... when you put someone else's happiness and wants before your own, especially. If we are loved in return our feelings and actions are validated, and in that validation we can often learn to love ourselves too. But when we love someone who doesn't return it... it can turn into an obsession. She wants to kill the object of her love and wants to be killed by them in return. It's an unhealthy relationship and she knows it, but it's not stopping her from throwing herself into it without concern for her own survival. |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Happy Lyrics | 10 years ago |

She believes in divinity. She found what she'd been looking for within herself. Whether you believe in god or not, the statement that someone is looking out for you can be true: that person is you. You are enough. You have what you need inside you. You can be that person who is always looking out for yourself. That's what Marina discovered and that's why she's happy. However, on the other hand she admits that she might need some company to be truly happy and she admits that she is still looking for that person, but she believes in possibilities. She's admitting her vulnerability--she's been desperately, desperately alone. There's a power in admitting this stuff out loud. This is a beautiful, beautiful uplifting song that has seriously touched me and made me feel a similar genuine epiphany. I'm grateful to have heard it basically. |

| Banks – You Should Know Where I'm Coming From Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| Beautiful song. She's been hurt before, badly, and her lover should understand that she can't be with him because of it. Maybe he comes from similar circumstances. | |

Huh. I interpreted the "What if I never even see you 'cause we're both on a stage" very literally. Like, the singer is involved with another performer, who is on tour all the time. However, I'm enjoying the more metaphorical interpretations as well. It *could* be a long-distance relationship with another artist, or it could be that she feels they are both performing, rather than being their authentic selves. In any case, it is a great song and my current ear worm of choice! |

| Cosmic love = star crossed lovers. Fated to fail. | |
| MS MR – Fantasy Lyrics | 12 years ago |

This is a great song about how your expectations for love can mess with your mind, and how past hurts can prevent you from possibly seeing what is in front of you. The singer sounds like she's disillusioned with love. "my reality/ could never live up to my fantasy." But she's also aware that her suspicious way of living isn't ultimately a satisfying existence: "Pressure of the future, too much for today How many hours will I let slip away Before I realize existing and living Are not the same Are not the same" Existing and living are not the same? Great point. Great song. |

| Florence + the Machine – Leave My Body Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| She wants to reach nirvana (moving up to higher ground) but it's difficult with attachments (history keeps pulling me down). There's some death references going on here too (gonna leave my body/don't want no future, etc), which is perhaps a metaphor for the spiritual enlightenment she seeks. | |
| Florence + the Machine – My Boy Builds Coffins Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I just think this song is much more simple than people are interpreting it. I think her "boy" is simply death. And death comes to everyone. My boy builds coffins he makes them all day But it's not just for work and it isn't for play He's made one for himself One for me too One of these days he'll make one for you Everybody dies. |

| Ingrid Michaelson – Locked Up Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Does anyone else get a love triangle type vibe from the chorus: But if I look to my right Will I see the one I fight for If I look to my right Or if I turn to my left Will I see that I've kept my heart locked up |
