The Fixx – Saved By Zero Lyrics 14 years ago
It could also mean that maybe hitting rock bottom will be when he's saved. (some people succumb to going to zero or below, others have to go that low before they're able to begin their journey back up and better for it) Hitting rock bottom saves many, as their perception shifts, priorities change, and the extra clutter and worries fall away. I saw my father's life saved by hitting rock bottom, down to zero, he had nothing, and he almost died twice. Once by drinking an entire bottle of vodka by the pool, knowing he'd fall in and pass out. His neighbor, by a fluke, came home for lunch, and felt there was something strange, went to my dad's and pulled him out of the pool.. then again, alcohol had him bleeding out internally, his liver was close to failing and he lost everything... When he was in the hospital he realized he hit rock bottom, and "the big man upstairs" had bigger plans for him, so he ended up staying sober, getting back on track, and pursuing what he loved, teaching, instead of being a Wall Street Lawyer. He's still alive and now happy, but it took going through hell and hitting ZERO, rock bottom to save him. Again, he was alone, and the only one who could save himself, but being so low forced him to get back up and way above zero. He did, and succeeded.

Bruce Springsteen – Badlands Lyrics 15 years ago
oops, that double posted, not sure how to take it down..
To add to it though, this song, now, in October, 2010 applies in other ways I'm sure he didn't intend it to.

I see it now, completely different, since the Obama administration and the ruins of our economy and the continual downward spiral of what was once the USA, and is now soon to be officially the Badlands, USA.
"Got a head-on collision smashin’ in my guts man
I’m caught in a crossfire that I don’t understand" (the attacks on 9/11, the war, hard to understand)

Badlands you gotta live it every day
Let the broken hearts stand
As the price you’ve gotta pay (the WAR, living it every day, the broken hears stand as the price we gotta pay, (losing lives, devastation, destruction) and keep fighting until it's understood - by the enemy - and then these "Badlands" (our soil, once vulnerable to attacks and terrorism and those who impose them on us, start treating us good)
We’ll keep pushin’ till it’s understood
And these badlands start treating us good

The next verse is about the evil in this world that creates conflicts and war... (leaving out religion, but ruling everything includes it as "everything"
Poor man wanna be rich, rich man wanna be king
And a king ain’t satisfied till he rules everything'

( I wanna go fight tonight to test my strength, with love and faith that'll save me, keep me safe, to come home to a better place that's risen above these "Badlands")

I wanna go out tonight, I wanna find out what I got
Now I believe in the love that you gave me
I believe in the faith that could save me
I believe in the hope and I pray that some day
It will raise me above these

Badlands…

(Those who are content with their freedom and what they have, their beliefs, are GENUINE, REAL, and don't tread on others, they're happy and content without the need to control and dominate others, and that ain't no sin...No sin to be happy with that..to "be glad you're alive".)

(I wanna find one face, that's not judging, condemning, hating, and looking to destroy us, I wanna find one place where we're safe and free to SPIT IN THE FACES OF THE DIRTBAGS THAT COME HERE MAKING OUR FREE LAND "BADLANDS")

This song makes me want to spit in the faces (at the very least) of the extremist, fanatical freaks who attacked us and are continuing to do so with their mosque and victory center on ground zero, and their Islamization of America. I want to spit in the face of the OBAMA FRAUD, and send him packing with the rest of the deceptive, evil, murderous radicals who should all be exiled or executed.. wouldn't waste a drop of spit on them...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside
That it ain’t no sin to be glad you’re alive
I wanna find one face that ain’t looking through me
I wanna find one place, I wanna spit in the face of these

Badlands…

Bruce always represented the working man, the blue collar majority. I always loved this song before I paid attention to the lyrics ~ he's relating to those who work hard manual labor, "getting their backs burned", living it everyday, but he's tired of "just the in betweens", he wants the heart, the soul, control right now".. ( a deeper meaning to life than just the day to day grind just to get by) He's not looking to "rule everything", but he's got deeper aspirations and dreams to raise him above the "Badlands".. Getting the facts straight, (learning more, exploring further than his own small world)..but at the same time, REALITY sets in, and the dream he's trying to make real seems so elusive and unattainable, it's heartbreaking.."let the broken hearts stand".. It doesn't hurt to dream and try to make it real, but the message is to not let it take away from your daily life and happiness, so "don't waste your time waiting".. And being in the working class is nothing to be ashamed of, everything has it's ups and downs, just like in the lyrics where he says " a man who had a notion a notion deep inside, it ain't no sin to be glad you;re alive"... You can work in this country and live in decent conditions, and you don't have to live up to anyone's standards to be happy, so don't dwell on the rich men, because they're never happy anyway... it's never enough, :they're not satisfied til they rule everything"..
