I tried to say the same thing, but you put it so eloquently. I really appreciated this. It was nice to read.

Katy Perry – Who Am I Living For? Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't blame you. There's a lot of hypocrites out there, a lot of corruption in churches and in self-proclaimed Christians. I'm a Christian and I would be the first one to admit that. Heck, I'm a hypocrite sometimes. Personally, I believe that to be a Christian is to have a personal relationship with Jesus and to live a life that would please God. If you're not doing that, then you're not a real Christian. If you're not doing that and call yourself a Christian, then you're a hypocrite. Do people screw up? Heck yes, all the time. Who's perfect? But that's why Jesus died on the cross. God gave up the perfect sacrifice so we could have a relationship with him. He forgives us for our shortcomings. We learn a little and make ourselves better as we go.

Keep in mind, I'm not trying to offend anyone with my beliefs. While I'm a Christian, I'm not looking to force my belief system on anyone else. Jesus is my role model and I try to live a life that would please God, plain and simple. If you want to learn about Jesus, you know my name. (:

I agree with the belief that Perry is singing about her struggle between her lifestyle and a Christian lifestyle, but I disagree with the interpretations of the lines, "Heavy is the head that wears the crown, don't let the greatness get you down." I think this is making a reference to Jesus' crucifixion. When Jesus was crucified, the crowd mocked him and the officials placed on his head a crown of thorns. Jesus had a great responsibility, and while he was God in flesh, he still was that: flesh. I think what this line means is that if you live a true Christian life, you will be mocked. It's a great responsibility. You have to make sacrifices and it might hurt a little or be uncomfortable but, you are greater for dong so. The payoff is so great. So, what I think Perry is saying here is that living a Christian life is hard and can hurt, but you can't let it get you down because the reward is infinitely great.

Keep in mind, I'm not trying to offend anyone with my beliefs. While I'm a Christian, I'm not looking to force my belief system on anyone else. Jesus is my role model and I try to live a life that would please God, plain and simple. If you want to learn about Jesus, you know my name. (:

I think it can mean separate things to an individual. I think all of these are correct in their own right. I also believe that many of these are wrong in their own right. The band has a personal reason for writing it, and music, as all art, is meant to be interpreted by an audience. The audience is comprised of many different people, who all have their own personal experiences, reflecting their view of the art. The only way you can view the song exactly the same as the writer is if you were the writer.
