Karnivool – All I Know Lyrics 15 years ago
I believe the lyrics posted here are incorrect. "Losing a theology" is an incorrect line. The line is actually "This is lucid ophthalmology". Lucid being a clear understanding (Are you with me? This is clear) and ophthalmology being the branch of medicine that deals with the eyes. Eyes are often deemed the "Windows to the soul" and the speaker in this song is "a soul taker." Just thought I'd add that into the equation.

Into the middle we go
Into the middle we go
(Two people are ready to fight/argue with no true resolution.)

I smell a rat and just in case
I set up traps and you're the bait
Surprise, surprise
(The speaker's loved one is having an affair with someone the speaker knows. The rat is that person. The loved one is the bait. To her surprise, he reveals that he knows about the affair after the trap has been successful and the rat is revealed. He possibly set up a meeting for the two)

If curiosity kills cats, we better
We better teach the cat to fight back
(The speaker is the cat. His curiosity into the situation caused him painful knowledge of the affair. He needs to teach himself to better deal with the trauma)

I'm waiting for you
I don't know why, when you always take your time
Into the middle we go
Let's see you try to kill me
(The speaker waits for his loved one as she decides who she will continue a relationship with. They go into "the middle" which is again this area of an argument that reaches no true resolution. She doesn't know how to resolve the situation, but staying in "the middle" is a way of avoiding the issue. The speaker is convinced her tactic of staying in "the middle" is an attempt to hurt him)

Our eyes fell to the floor
Your eyes and mine
(They are both saddened by their predicament. Both of their eyes "fell to the floor" indicates that they are both ashamed.[The same thing a child or a dog would do in shame] The speaker is made ashamed for letting his curiosity take control and developing some elaborate trap to catch his loved one rather than asking her if she was unfaithful. She is ashamed for obvious reasons.)

The middleman straddles the fence
He never loses, never wins, with confidence
And more power to him!
He doesn't need a telescope
To figure out he's jumping rope hand over feet
(The middleman is the other guy. He isn't in love with the speaker's woman, so he won't lose if she chooses the speaker, However he will never win because even if she chooses him, he won't be with her for the right reasons. The middleman doesn't take the emotional relationship to heart, and he is okay with that. He knows he just finds a way for things to work. [Such as his cheap way of jumping rope] The middleman takes nothing to the extreme and avoids ever being hurt by doing so. The speaker says more power to him for not making himself vulnerable, unlike the speaker himself who's love for this woman is killing him inside.)

Fair to Midland – April Fools and Eggmen Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm very glad you mentioned the album art. This does lead the listener have "political debate" in mind when listening to the song. I will say however, I'm not hearing the "V" in "save". I believe it may be "take the bait, and say however much it takes before we lay to waste however much it takes." I may be wrong--just an observation!
