Dear and the Headlights – Midwestern Dirt Lyrics 14 years ago
one of my favorite DATH songs, it just sounds like it's about being used in a relationship, something inorganic that just happened at the wrong time for both people.

I especially love the walking on eggshells reference,
the only thing that confuses me is that the last two lines sound like they could be about death.

Dear and the Headlights – Talk About Lyrics 14 years ago
To me this is a terribly scathing break-up song. and all of the "you're likes" are a summary of their relationship. when he's saying "you wanna talk about all the feelings I'm feeling?" it's almost like, this is what he would say in an argument that airs everything out. so he finally tells her allll of these things that he's feeling about their relationship.

It gets more apparent to me at the end when he talks about "a phone call home after 8 long seasons, there's a mail order bride and a baby that's teething."

basically, it's just a biting remark at an entire relationship, done intensely well.

this is one of my favorite songs, lyrically, ever.

Mumford & Sons – Awake My Soul Lyrics 14 years ago
Just something I noticed, in the recorded song at some points it sounds like he's saying "her weight, my soul." And then looking into the second stanza, that really connects and, to me, it sounds as if he's suggesting the burdens of love. I'm taken aback by this band's writing on every song.

La Dispute – New Storms For Older Lovers Lyrics 15 years ago
The lines "Think about your children..." and "I hope you see us/Your wife and your children and I".. I think he's sort of putting the burden of his family onto the other man, trying to turn it around onto him? I also think it foreshadows at the end how the cheater will eventually tell the man, like krikit army said, that his wife no longer loves him.
This song is one of my favorite songs by La Dispute. Especially starting at "He finally paused to take a breath, then looked down".. I just can't even believe so much talent exists.

La Dispute – Andria Lyrics 15 years ago
I always thought it said "And I bet if I could do it all again, I'd feel the same thing" which I kind of like better even though it's only one word off with basically the same meaning. Sometimes I hate reading lyrics.
La Dispute isn't even lyrics, it's pure poetry. It's beautiful and metaphoric and everything has clear symbolism and imagery. I'm in love with every word.

Envy on the Coast – Like I Do Lyrics 15 years ago
First of all this is one of the best examples of song writing I've seen in so long. I'm going out on a limb here with what I got from this.. I feel like its a satirical representation sorts talking about rape from the viewpoint of the rapist. I feel like if it was about cheating, the description of "you should have seen her eyes wide at the sight of my hands ripping apart those vows" wouldn't be so harsh. And the last line of the chorus is sort of like mockery, because it's like, this is what he's doing to this poor girl, but from the rapists perspective it's just "Lady, this is meant to be." (Which I also love the informality of 'lady' taken in the context that I understood from it.. completely genius.) In the second verse, talking about staring in the mirror and wondering who is staring back, maybe the rapist is finally starting to think "I wonder who this woman is, what she has going for her in her life, who I am hurting by hurting her." So he kills her and buries her (though I'm not sure who 'him' is referring to?) and then crawls back to his lair relieved of any guilt, goes back to getting high, and staring at the same static tv, still being smothered by lust and violence (both of which the color red represent.)
