I always thought the lyric was thinking' chair. Do we have it on good authority though it is indeed fainting' chair? It doesn't change my interpretation and best guess though. I always thought that lyric was like someone who is either an alcohol or depressive or really thoughtful person. I always loved thinking of the lyric as "thinking chair" because of the quaint and antiquated idea of a thinking arm chair, like a smoking jacket. But if it is "fainting chair" and the person is drinking PINK RABBITS, which sounds like a either real or made up alcoholic drink, this could be someone with a bad drinking habit, or someone who drinks so much regularly, sits in a favorite chair, and passes out/nods out each night after drinking. and the narrator is dreaming/ nay hoping that this person cares and thinks about them when they may or may not if they still care. Definitely a hopeful but painful love song. |

Oh! @ Zaby73 I forgot the most important part, it doesn't die after burning to ashes it magically is reborn from the ashes. Which is what Ani means by "dare to rise up from the ashes, A thousand eyes will smolder with jealousy While you are just flying past" |

| Hey @Zaby73, a phoenix is a mythological bird that after so many years of life (which is supposed to be a very long time I think?) lights into flames and burns to ashes. I first learned of this when I read the Harry Potter books. : ) | |

"i was eleven years old he was as old as my dad and he took something from me i didn't even know that i had so don't tell me about decency don't tell me about pride just give me something for my trouble 'cause this time, it's not a free ride" I agree with those who thought this was about a past sexual abuse. I always thought the lyrics were alluding to her being raped at eleven years of age. But then I read the comment below about this being about her dancer/stripper friends and I guess not. I guess it was more of a tribute to them and their experiences, but who knows...? Either way, really powerful song. I've always loved this one, but I love them all. : ) Love Ani! |
