Beirut – The Shrew Lyrics 15 years ago
Just Amazing.
This is the way I interpret this song. Starts assuming that it's about an old couple.

"She wasn't ever obliged
To lift me a buckle or rise"

I think this part refers to the woman from the husband's perspective, she was never obliged to do this or that for me, or even rise in the morning to care for me but she did it.

"And once her eyes covered with flies
The pain she no longer disguised"
This seems to express that the wife died and the husband had to see her go through pain and finally death.
The next part is very hard for me to interpret but I assumed it might talk about memories not sure if good ones or bad ones, could be good ones that they spent together when they were able to but the husband doesn't want to remember because of the pain he is already baring.
"Windows that I'm terrorized in time
Never to ignite
There was once a time beside
It holds each one in light"

"'Til the market left dry" I am not sure how to connect this because it could be interpreted as a relationship that runs out of love, so i will just leave it at that.

"How long she's been by my side
But at last, the stable's retired"
Pretty self explanatory, how long she has been my companion but at last, she can rest.

That's all I could think of, I would like to know your opinions.
