The song was written about his girlfriend at the time Suze Rotolo. She went off to Italy and went to school there.. He kept writing her that he wanted her to come home.. She wasn't sure if she was gonna come back to the states. There is a picture of both Dylan and Rotolo on his album Freewheelin'. The relationship ended with his affair with Joan Baez.. Suze Rotolo came out with her book Freewheelin' Time and discusses the realationship and life with Dylan when he first landed in NY.. It was a great read and really informative.. |

Yes the song is great and he wrote it as it was a favourite saying of his wife Olivia, but the meaning that you are giving the song is indeed your opinion...George died because he had cancer. John died because of a nut...but their time here was at an end..out loss to be sure but their time no less. They are still with us but not in the physical sense. They will forever be remembered. This is a great song. It give me the same feeling as the early stuff he wrote. It was from a more innocent in our lives. I guess by the negative remarks that you must be from a later period in time and don't understand what it was like in the early 60's. To those of you that have some sort of ego thing going on about the complexity of the tune or the meaning of the lyrics and they don't live up to your expectations, get a life. Sometimes a joyful catchy tune is just that, a joyful catchy tune and if McCartney wanted something deeper he would have written it. If you don't like it the adult thing is don't listen to it. |

This is a great song. I think it explains it self. Hard to believe he is 70. Where did the time go. Hard to believe I have been a fan 46 years.. seems like yesterday (pardon the pun). Love Ya Ringo. |

Your joking right? After what about 40 years, your not getting it? With 9 pages of people saying it is about John's son, you don't get it? The phrase about getting under my skin, his/her skin, your skin has no reference to heroin. It was a common phrase back then. Sinatra sang "I got you under my skin". You an idiot...do you know how to read a book? Its the thing with 2 covers and a bunch of pages in it. Try picking up one about the Beatles...you find it in a place called a library...usually a big brick building in you town. |

OMG you kids crack me up....it isn't a dark song. Its about a guy who is really into this girl. He can't imagine him being with another. The dime reference is what it cost to use a pay phone back in the 60's. You kids read way too much into some of the lyrics of my youth. How is the weather is a nonsense lyric. It just fit. The Beatles used them all the time. It at times drove people crazy trying to figure out what they were "really saying". Sometimes a lyric is just that a lyric. |

I have to agree with theycameforannahh, John was indeed the first to leave the band. It wasn't announced for business reasons. Namely Klein had renegotiate their Capital contract for higher percentage for their royalties. They had to present a united front to Capital. They also had the album Let It Be as well as the movie coming out. Paul was the one that announced to the world he was leaving the Beatles with his solo album came out as part of the press release. John was outraged that he didn’t get to do it first. That was part of the argument between Paul and John. If you want to read a really good book on it there is “You Never Give Me Your Money” by Peter Doggett.
