I think this is song is written about drug addiction, probably (as previously said) meth, but it can easily be applied to other issues like depression, OCD etc. For me, I identify with it as being about OCD: "crawling in my skin" - you have that literal feeling of contamination inside yourself, "confusing what is real" - paranoia sets in, and its so hard to tell whether what you see contaminating you is in your head or real, and that links into "I can't seem to find myself again.....so insecure" - you become totally consumed by the thoughts that it's hard to focus on anything else and that makes it hard to live life ("distracting, reacting" "fear is how I fall", "this lack of self control I fear is never-ending" - panic attacks, extreme anxiety, constantly and ultimately you can't get that control and safety that you're desperately searching for. I think LP's early lyrics are SO good, and so easy to identify with if you have any emotional/mental struggles, and even if you don't! I think the stuff about depth and superficiality is completely missing the point - it seems that lyrics are an outlet for Chester, he doesn't need to encode it, he just speaks about his struggles. end of! |

| Skillet – Imperfection Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I personally don't think it's meant to be ABOUT eating disorders, I think its about dealing with the imperfections of humans - in this case a girl, maybe in her youth trying to find herself - and the realisation that according to Christianity, God loves her despite her imperfections, as he does everyone. However, it can be really easily applied to eating disorders, strangely so. "Yet seem so far from everything you're wanting to be", "can I be somebody else for all the times I hate myself?" "you're drowning in your imperfection" - they're thoughts that many people experience at some time, but for someone with an eating disorder its a permanent train of thought and self-hatred so it's intensified. I love this song, and it's so nice to know you're (I'm) not alone drowning in your (my) imperfection!! |

to be honest, I agree with dark-julie, and I think that's partly because of their other song 'courage'. I can see it could be general, and it has some useful messages for everyone, and could even be indirectly linked to the principles of religion, but there are parts of it that scream eating disorder to me. "alone in this fight with herself" - it's ultimately an internal battle between healthy and "disordered" mind. "the only way out is through everything she's running from" could refer to the only way of getting through an eating disorder is to gain weight/eat/stop behaviours - everything you're running away from in the first place. I really relate to it, and I love the last chorus with the almost scream in the background, ironically I'll often listen to it and end up crying at the point when its "and she fears if she cries that first tear, the tears will not stop raining down". awesome song, love it - I love it when I can identify totally with lyrics. |

| Plumb – I Can't Do This Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think this is intended to be a christian song, but you could take it less literally - "oh god I need your help" could be pleading to anything/anyong, just to the air, as "oh god" a common phrase. I love this song - and I agree that it could be about cutting, but another spin could be that its about trying to recover from something: an illness or whatever. "I can't do this by myself", could be that the behaviour or thoughts are so tempting, and the person can't get better alone, they need help. I dunno, that's what it means to me - and the "press into me" is probably about god, but could just be a safe place/voice. |
