He's lost someone he deeply cares for, so much that he's losing his mind doing anything and everything to satisfy her. When she's gone it's like the color has gone from his life (Kodachrome is all I see) and all the moments are locked up in the complicated machine that was their relationship. It was destructive and the sole purpose for his suffering is gone.
This song hits very close to home for me. |

I think it means that while Anthony is on the road touring constantly, that his relationship with his wife Meredith is becoming strained. He feels like they're falling apart and he wants to her know how badly he's feeling but she can never understand because she's never been in his situation. I cried the first time I heard this song because I'm currently in a long distance relationship and the feeling of hopelessness and anguish is almost too much to bear sometimes, and I feel that's what he's trying to say to Meredith. He misses her. |
