I dont care what you guys say about Mark Sandman, with a band name like "morphine" and songs like this its pretty obvious he was at the least experimenting and fooling around with opiates. Buena makes me think of a chola prostitute or heroin. Most jazz and blues musicians are familiar with drugs. Even if this song isnt directly related to heroin, it could be weed or something. Its not a woman, you can tell, its something he wants to turn the world unto. |

another scenario of being tricked into sex, this time with a guy who believes in the patriarchy and women bashing double standard bible shit. He believes her to be a whore after shes given herself to him and so she says "these precious things, let them break, let them bleed" in retaliation, she doesnt want to feel bound to what a "pure woman" should be, but she doesnt understand how it makes her worthless to lie down with a man. I'm presuming this is about a scenario where she wasnt popular in high school and wasnt respected, perhaps the ugly girl who was easy and not one of the highly respected demi god virgin girls. She wants to shed her image, her image of being a broken whore. |

I dont know if I can quite gather a meaning from the lyrics...the song reminds me of a maypole ritual or a pagan ritual because as the song progresses it gets darker, I think this is another song about her affair with Jim morrison and his deaths impact on her. She seems to take alot of unrelated sentences from really old and beautiful poems and strings them together so that they sound good even if they are unrelated and random. If you've seen the short video excerpt on this song, it shows a bunch of crosses being burnt and nico and iggy and a bunch of other people carrying a casket. This song is amazing, it almost makes me mad at how unfair it is she got so little attention for her music. |

the "we laughed until we cried" part could possibly be referring to having the time of your life with a lover or a close friend and looking back on it now that theyre gone

This song might as well have been written by Nico herself, she completely tore a new hole in this song and made it 10000000000 times better. When I listen to this song, I picture myself walking along across the dessert, singing my woes to the man who doesnt listen to me, the man who abandoned me. Its as if shes singing goodbye painfully to a man she doesnt want to let go of. The pain she feels is a deep wallowing emptiness inside of her, she cries and walks alone. Nobody hears her. Finally she collapses on the ground and disintigrates into the dust and flys into the sky. |

It could be anything but lets just say for Courtney loves sake its about sex.
Lots of times men will say ambigous but romantic things to get you to sleep with them, often times these things translate into affection in the womans brain, she believes he is sincere and appreciates her as much as he might say. Its not the case, the guy just wants sex and then wants to leave her, and this is her way of saying fuck you for the pain he's caused her, "you should learn when to go" You should learn when to leave when Im done fucking you, and "you should learn how to say no" is the guys way of saying, "if you didnt want to be used why dont you just say no", shes obviously in love with this guy and hes just taking and taking and blaming her and making her look like a crazy psycho ("Im the one with no soul"), and he says "I told you from the start just how this would end, when I get what I want, and I never want it again", He tries to justify his actions but it means nothing to her because the obvious end result is she feels empty and humiliated and unloved.

I think this song is about how catastrophes bring people closer together. In wars especially, "if its not love then its the bomb that will bring us together". If its not love that will bring a nation closer together it'll be a war, or a nuke, or a flood. Events like katrina brought people to contributing supplies and charity work, and its almost like..how can peace be achieveable between us and other nations if its only some big catastrophe in OUR OWN NATION that brings us together. |

What if its someone who means alot to you, but where you have placed them in high importance they place a drug. I think its about trying to reach out to a lover who drowns everything with drugs and doesnt take a single thing seriously. Its not so much a whiny song as it is sort of a bittersweet observance of the loss of communication and how a person who cares so little for you leaves such a lasting impression. |

I love robotrippins take on this song, its definantly a story weaved together and I cant decide what it could be a metaphor FOR. I imagine a car crash somewhere deep in the woods, and a woman is lost in the woods and comes to a clearing or a river, and finds her broken body lieing there, and has to come to terms with her own death. Its like a narative of the death of a woman and how she surrenders and accepts death, downward is heavenward could mean that the frightening and nihilistic acceptance of death is not so bad, its like heaven to finally be able to aknowledge and accept the truth no matter how painful it is. |

Although this song is titled after the statue in seattle, if you've seen the video, its a freaky warped cartoonish satire on suburban happiness. I think when he says "black hole sun wont you come, and wash away the rain" I think he means a couple of things, one, that he's stuck in a bad trip and wants more than anything to come out of it, and second, I think he's just disastisfied with the fake optimism he's surrounded by, and that theres a fucked up side to everyone. |
