Ok so after reading a lot of other comments I think its tied to limousine. Most likely from the drunk drives perspective? Hey hey hey! (Ok so this and other lines makes me think he's contemplating suicide from the guilt.) Again guessing the intentional death) So they say, They say in heaven There's no husbands and wives (i am not positive on this one. maybe he doesn't mean literally, maybe he means just the union of two people? it could possibly be he saying she'll never have someone promise to be faithful to her... ) On the day that I show up They'll be completely out Of their forgiveness supplies And I can't use the telephone To tell you that I'm dead and gone So you won't know (ok so i think this is the summary. If he died he could "go to heaven" and tell her, look i died to, to mend things with you in the way i thought was right. but when he gets there he's denied, so she never would know he did that.) i'm not sure if any of this is near correct. but Jesse is a lyrical genius. i wouldn't underestimate him. |

Ok so I read most of the interpretations and none really fit my idea of what the song is about so heres my idea: If you have the actual CD, in the album notes there are alternate names for each song (You can see them on the Antlers official website too) Bear is also known as "Children Become Their Parents Become Their Children" keeping this in mind, Two has references to what seems to be child abuse, while the child was dealing with cancer. Also in Kettering, "abused by the bone that refused you" makes me think of a parent abusing their child. So in my mind, I do think bear is about an abortion, but not just from the narrators point of view. I feel like perhaps its a flashback, to Silvia's Parents."we'll make all the right appointments, no one ever has to know" to me symbolizes someone feeling that the procedure is foolproof and successful, but "you'll keep me in the waiting room", and the reference of basically being screwed over, says that maybe the abortion didn't work. That perhaps they still have the child and have to live with that, which might explain abuse since if they never wanted the child in the first place they would abuse her. |

thats were i thot it was going. after listening to it like 100 times haha. either that, or maybe he had a previous relationship with this "sister fair" and she thinks that hes jus going back for the old sister fair, but really hes going afte the new girl but she doesnt think that, because previoously when she thought he was intrested in her it was her sister fair. could be way off, but you never know! |

| i think the girl has a tendency to have weird reasoning on things, or make rash decisions that don't seem normal. So when she's saying "Let me Go", he's worried she doesn't no what she wants, or she's making a rash decision, when maybe she's just saying look i seriously would rather you let me go then i will like you or want you more. But he's worried she's going to run away, which could cause her to feel pressured and awkward, and maybe WILL run away from him. | |

Sometimes when I'm alone, I wonder Is it a spell that I am under Keeping me from seeing the real thing? when hes talking about the spell hes under, i think hes saying i see all these "stories" of people who seem to be so happily in love but most real life stories arent like that, hence seeing the real thing. as melancholy as this song sounds, it puts the sort of "bitter" truth into a sweeter perspective, something about the tune just puts it all together |

i agree i think this song is talking about religion, which is the metaphor. and so many different names is refering to how every religion has some higher power, or god, and every religion has a different name. love the song, its awesome, same as all his other songs. love and music <3 |
