I think it's about a woman, who just doesn't feel anything anymore. She wanted to be with this guy and then she sleeps with him and then there isn't anything more. She tries to keep up the charade the it doesn't bother her to just have meaningless sex with him and then in the process of trying to convince him, she convinces herself. "I used to want to make you talk,now I would rather you did not." She's saying that it went from her wanting more than a sexual relationship with him, to now she would just prefer they get straight to the sex and skip the social aspect of it. "I used to want to make you mine, now I have better things in mind..." Like she finally got what she wanted, but she doesn't want it anymore. It's a beautifully sad song that shows that sometimes people get tired of vying for the acceptance of someone. Very easy to relate to. |

The feeling after sex is usually the referred to as the afterglow, so basically the song is saying the once that not even pleasant lingering feelings after good times could save there relationship. No afterglow, it goes right back to turmoil. |
