| My aunt KT used to play this for me when I was little. Now that I have started high school, I get what he's talking about. High school is hard, and you're always looking to impress somebody in some way. And in high school, they give you all this crap about how after high school or college, that you have to live a correct life, and you should start now. (Like to stay in the lines). And he wants to run through his high school acting out now that he's an adult, and he's having fun still, and he's not staying in the lines, he's living his life, and is being invincible because he's "alive". | |

I've always really liked this song. But I never really knew the meaning. A few weeks ago I turned 15 and started high school, and now I'm looking back like, "What happened?" and I feel really... old. I mean I want to grow up, but at the same time I'm scared. |

I have always liked this song. But I never really knew the meaning of it. I recently listened, and I believe it's about not wanting to grow up. Like you wake up one day and think holy cow, I'm old. I few weeks ago I turned 15 and started high school, and I woke up a few days ago and thought "Jesus... what happened? I'm so old". And, I mean, I want to grow up, but I'm really kind of scared to. When I listened to it again I thought of my childhood. My cousin and I catching fireflies at our grandpa's block party. And the disco ball hanging by a thread reminds me of my 6th grade science teacher who had a disco ball hanging by a thread in her room and she said that's what she wants the moon to look like one day. The wind chimes at the end reminds me of being at my grandpa's all the time, he had wind chimes that made beautiful sounds and it calmed me down. "I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay Awake when I'm asleep 'Cause everything is never as it seems" This has two meanings for me though. The first one, means that the world does move slowly, but you can't believe it because time goes by so fast. And the second one, is about my sister leaving for college. I can't believe that's she's gone. It seems like yesterday she was my age. "Please take me away from here" I think this is saying like, that he wants to go back to his childhood. "It's hard to say that I'd rather stay Awake when I'm asleep 'Cause everything is never as it seems When I fall asleep" I think that this means he would rather sleep because he can't believe his childhood is over, but at the same time he's hoping for a tomorrow so he can follow his dreams. |
