Its a series of stories about the people at the bottom of the pile in London, there's Jack who, in order to deal with his awful life has become a violent thug, but now his friends are grown up and moved on he is alone and miserable, and on his girl leaving him and finally turned to drink. Then there's Gorgina a lonely drug addict who on her eventual overdose is just 'another paramedic announcement' 'Shelia' is a the model of the London girl on the binge, she is exposed and alone but she hides it by acting hard and drinking, but that just makes here more alone. It is hinted in the end that she ends up drowning in the Thames while drunk. It is basically a poem about the people of London who are not mentioned in the 'ideal' setting in London, he wants to draw attention to the sad lonely exsistance they live. |
