| i like the beatles because they talk about things in a way that make you feel like everything's gunna be okay. this song's about moving on or making a decision to look at the bright side. i like to picture a landscape with huge mountains capped with cliffs on a clear sunny day during a season where chances of rain are 50/50. i say this because, especially for someone who climbs, the weather is a major factor and it helps put the song in perspective. every decision you make to climb higher could potentially be more life threatening just like none of us are promised tomorrow. the further we are to the top, the harder we will fall. for a climber the rain could make things more dangerous the rocks would be slippery so basically the theme is that you should make the decision when its time and not waste time looking back with any regret. you can't always control the weather in your own life but when it's possible you should make sure to follow the sun. it forces others in your life to make the same decision as well. it seems the friend already made the decision to settle but the friend of the friend is still going to stand up and continue to follow the light. the friend that settled early on will be forced to face their decision of staying in the shadows, were they are protected from rain, when they see the others at the top of the mountain where the light shines completely. well i think it's just about not letting others hold you back and making your own passionate decisions and forcing those closest to you to make their own decisions in light of yours. great song, i love the melody! | |

| I wanna add to the post before this, after the first stanza I feel like he's looking at the younger version of himself or just youth in general. Not wanting to revise- not having regrets. And idk why but when he sings "It doesn't matter much to me. If it doesn't matter much to you." I just picture an awkward moment trading looks with someone trying to read how they feel about something you did before you know you're okay with it. I think he was just pointing out how strange we act when were young. I read this the other day "The young are permanently in a state resembling intoxication" by Aristotle. Coincidence he mentioned he was hungover? lol | |

The whole song isn't about anyone in particular when he says "me". He wrote it in first person for the effect, it ties in the meaning of the song. It's a matter of time before reality hits. You have to be true to who you are, learn from mistakes... jump in head first into the unknown and oh, bring your friends. My past is getting us nowhere fast. I was never one for taking things slow. Nowhere seems like somewhere to go. Come over, and over. This is the only line that really supports my opinion but he's totally sarcastic with the rest of the lines. Check it out Doing my time for line after line. When will i learn to sing these crimes to myself? Prisoners to share a cell with. I'm holding, still holding. Holding you in. Making decisions your not comfortable with but doing it because the other "prisoners" are doing it too- it's not comfortable in a jail cell. But you do it anyway? Love them! |
