Dream Theater – Never Enough Lyrics 15 years ago
like all the other songs in this album is this one very much creepy. the middle refrain sounds like the spider's failure to escape in Octavarium. It's all a part leading to the end where there's no escape. It's all part of the trap. Move forward butt eventually you're in an endless cycle of actions triggering reactions that keep you going back to where you started.

This song itself is about ungrateful fans who complain about the album and whatnot. Everything is never enough because people only want MORE. I love this song as well as Root of All Evil and Octavarium.

Avenged Sevenfold – So Far Away Lyrics 15 years ago
@ferniferousfern: It definately is "Never feared for anything"
Never shame but never free
A light that healed the broken heart with all that it could...

It sounds nothing like "never bid for anything" and that doesn't even make sense compared to the rest of the verse of the song.

Avenged Sevenfold – Save Me Lyrics 15 years ago
This song creeps me out almost as much as Octavarium by Dream Theater does. Just the part that says "Save me, I'm trapped in a vile wolrd where every ending is the same as every other / we're only here to die". This song is clearly about the Rev and how much they miss him. I loved his voice too, in Critical Acclaim, Little Piece of Heaven, etc. I will miss him too. He reminds me of my better days that once were.

I know A7X wrote their songs to be more than just about their own band member but I think this song was entirely about him. I feel as much as them how much it hurts whn they say "Is it something we did? Is it something we did to them" and "Is it something we said? Is it something we said to them?". It's as if they feel they have said or done something to anger the "gods" that they he has to die so that they pay for their "sins".

Also, it means what did we deserve to lose the one we loved? Why must we suffer for years to come without him/her? Why can't we just close our eyes (to end our lives) just like he/she did? "They say all beauty must die but I say it just moves on"... the one we love doesn't just die and disappears but he moves on to fulfill a new purpose wherever he/she is now. There is more to this than death and there is a purpose to what these people can do after they've left us.

I love this song as much as So Far Away, M.I.A., and Seize The Day. They are the modern form of the epic power ballads from the 70s and 80s and they are the best band that has ever existed.

ps. "and our feelings insecure" is incorrect. It's "and our feelings unsure"

"And in a way it seems there is no-one to call when our thoughts are so numb and our feelings insecure. We all have emptiness inside, we all have answers to find... but you can't win this fight". Best song on the album. I love the melody.

The highlight of the song is "It's a war in the end and we'll surely lose but that's alright...". That and the part about going insane is a temporary phase people go through when they lose someone. Some get depressed and reckless (verse 1), some get agressive and rebellious (verse 2), some go through a period of psychosis (I've lost my mind / psychotic, rampant dementia), and some go through a reclusive period (deep inside where nothing's fine / you're not invited so step aside).

Also, what is he saying in the first line of the middle stanza? Sounds to me like "I see your estate has been dethroned" but the word doesn't actually sound like "estate". Not sure if it's "I see you're a king who has been dethroned" either.

A7X are a great band and I loved the album, especially Welcome to the family, So far away, and Save Me. In this song they don't explicitly mention death although it's perceived to be about a close friend dying. Of course, like the rest of the songs in the album (except Nightmare and Danger Line), it's part of a tribute to the Rev.

Though, I believe A7X have double meanings in their songs that aren't so obvious. Every time I listen to this song it reminds me of people I've known a few years ago from uni who all went into their careers while I ended up doing nothing for a year cos I couldn't get a job. When he says "I have so much to say but you're so far away" and "So far away... I need you to know" I think of so many things I could tell them if they came back again.

3:53 onwards is the best part of the song. I love the solo and "so far away I need you to know" ending.

Dream Theater – Octavarium Lyrics 15 years ago
Looks like some of my last post isn't quite correct. I've read a bit more about Octavarium and the whole alcoholics anonymous thing is actually in Root of All Evil as well as one song from four other albums that together speak about the 12-step recovery program. Still, the gibberish Portnoy is singing in Full Circle sound like random stuff a drunk person might come out with.

I like the part where he says "show me the way to get back home again" and then "my generation's home again". It sounds like someone who has got older and is coming back to things in his childhood that he thought he was so far away from - maybe returning to his childhood home and realising he's back where he started as a parent as opposed to a child. Very much like how the song ends in the same key it started on but an octave higher.

As for Intervals, DT say that a part from each of the 8 songs play in the background. I can just about hear the clips in the background but they're very subtle. Also, each stanza plays in the same keys as the previous songs just as the song itself ascends through the 8 keys starting in F and ending in F an octave higher. I've read that there are five "negative time" sections throughout the album that play in the sharp keys (F#, G#, A#, C#, and D#) but I downloaded the album from iTunes so I didn't get those extra parts.

I believe this song is about alcohol addiction. Think about it. The "fifth, sixth, seventh, eightth", I've read before (a few years ago) refers to the 12 stages of recovery from Alcoholics Anonymous.

"Someone like Him" is about not wanting to be like the man that is too content with his life. Be a little better and do much more than the average man who is just content. Then he sees the doctor to help him with his ongoing problem but the doctor (or psychiatrist) can only do what he can do. He desperately needs help but the doctor is not really a miracle maker.

Then he drinks again and goes back into his drunken state. "Sailing on the seven seas / seize the day / day tripper / carpe diem / dinner's ready / find a way back home again" and "eugene the dance machine / messiah light my fire / gabba gabba hey hey / hey my g-g-generation / my generation's home again" is drunken gibberish. He's drunk and talking random crap.

Then he's in a state of spinning around / double eyes / madness and finds he's in that cycle of addiction to alcohol. He keeps trying to get out but he'll never stop drinking, being in a state, then feeling guilty, then drinking to forget his problems. Then he's in a situation he can't escape from - he's trapped inside the Octavarium.

The song ends on the small note of F, which is where the first song in the album started. The first song is in the key of F, the second song is in the key of G, the third in A, and so on. The eighth song is in F but it changes to G, A, B, C, D, E, and F again. The ending of the song is an octave higher than the beginning (hence octa-varium) and then the ending note is in the F an octave below.

I believe the song is about the endless cycle of alcohlism and also a reference to life in general. After a few times hearing it back in 2007 it sounds really creepy. It reminds me that you can't escape from the eternal hell. It is the same cycle forever.

Rammstein – B******** (English) Lyrics 15 years ago
BUCKSTABU... I CALL MYSELF
BUCKSTABU... I CALL MYSELF

I believe the song is about a man with a schizophrenic like mentality where he has two conflicting voices and personalities. According to Rammstein, buckstabu (the B******** word) means "whatever you want" so I guess he's saying "call me Buckstabu" and "call me whatever you want". Buckstabu is also meant to be a made-up swear word that kids would not be allowed to use. Starring out the letters in the word gives it a kind of feel that it is a taboo word similar to bastard and fuck (or b****** and f***).

Rammstein – Reise, Reise (English) Lyrics 15 years ago
Reise Reise seaman Reise - It means a call to raise the seamen as a revenge attack against the people who killed them while they were humans. One thows spear into the lance another then into a fish. I think it means that men died at the hands of traitors and then arose to take their revenge on humanity, killing fish too.

Man bleeds softly into the sea / bleeds himsself dry on the shore - death of many people because the sea men were betrayed and rejected by them. they come back as half fish half man and kill the rest of people.

all in all I believe this song is about retalliation and vengeance. kill those who killed you. lead an unstoppable army and wipe out everything in your way. well, something like that. definately a call to arms kind of theme.
