Iron Maiden – The Talisman Lyrics 15 years ago
Yeah, it's mostly about a journey across the sea. And one thing I noticed is that the music picks up and becomes a lot faster when the currents become a lot more dangerous in the story.

But this may just be me, but I feel that this is another metaphor for life. Each ship represents a person/friend. The storm represents the hardships of life. When he leaves, that could mean that he starts living on his own, or something on those lines. As to what the land would mean is beyond me. But again, it's just a hunch, I may be wrong. I always look for the meanings behind the what is put before you.

Iron Maiden – Rainmaker Lyrics 15 years ago
It's all one big metaphor. In deserts, rain is very rare but when it does rain, vegetation flourishes both quickly and vastly and make it almost unrecognizable. The cracks refers to the cracks on dry soil. When it rains, these cracks are washed away.

So the point of this is that the rain is anything that changes you for the better, as it changes the desert, and washes away all of your wounds, symbolized by the cracks. And the person is looking for his "Rainmaker," be it a politician or a person of affection.

So to wrap it up: The desert is a person's life. Not everyone's life is a desert, mind you. It's desolate and full of cracks, due to the dry soil. Cracks represent the wounds. And the rain represents anything that makes your life better and heals your wounds. The Rainmaker is the object that can make it rain whenever. So to put it in perspective, it would always rain in the desert, meaning that beautiful vegetation permanent and the cracks to never return.
