Switchfoot – Yesterdays Lyrics 15 years ago
I thought the line "Every lament is a love song" was really interesting. I lost a good friend this year unexpectedly. Since then, I've noticed that many sad songs ("laments") are primarily about lovers, and there are very few that describe the loss of a friend. There are many ways to love someone. We always focus on romantic love, which isn't necessarily bad, but it seems that in the music industry (and society in general, especially entertainment), the power of love in a friendship often gets passed over in favor of romance. And that's kind of unfortunate.

I'm not necessarily saying that's what the authors' meaning was in writing that line, but that's what it makes me think of.

Darren Hayes – Casey Lyrics 15 years ago
I had a friend whose name actually was Casey. She was nineteen when died in April. Casey had muscular dystrophy, which meant a lot of physical and developmental problems, including being confined to a wheelchair, but she was the sweetest, most genuine person I have ever met in my life. She really shaped me into who I am, and she made me feel like I was worth something. Just seeing her face would transform my day. I love the line "I was a mixed up kid and you were my sanity." It describes my relationship with my Casey perfectly.
