to sort of add to this, with my take I suppose, on his own Icarus figure: I get the feeling it's about the narrator's mother dying during her first child's birth. "I am my mother on the wall, with us all" -Portrait of mom, indicates she is still with them in thought. "I am my mother's only one"-No brothers or sisters. Also to add to Icarus: "Gluey feathers on the flume"..feathers from his wings still stick to this "flume", almost as if the impact of his mother's death is still on him..the feathers are "stuck", scars. In return, making him feel lonely and sad. Being hopeful in finding someone to bridge that gap, wearing his heart on his sleeve "I wear my garment so it shows" |

Well, starts with Bon Iver song "woods"-very good by the way. Then Kanye's part is talking about someone who is his absolute everything. Gil-Scott Heron verse is a bit more complicated to me but here is my take on it... "People don't even want to hear the preacher spill or spiel because God's whole card has been thoroughly piqued. " -first he is saying how everyone has turned their back on religion and resented god. "The youngsters who were programmed to continue fucking up woke up one night digging Paul Revere and Nat Turner as the good guys." ~Nat Turner was an American slave who led a slave rebellion in Virginia -So, one night the younger generation (us I am guessing) woke up and realized, the "bad" guys weren't so bad after all "We learned to our amazement untold tale of scandal." "America stripped for bed and we had not all yet closed our eyes" -Truth started coming out, and not everyone was prepared. "Two long centuries buried in the musty vault, hosed down daily with a gagging perfume. " -Truth came out after 200 years of being covered up badly. Like a place that stinks trying to cover it up in bad perfume. We all now know about world war 1, 2, civil wars, ect etc. "America was a bastard the illegitimate daughter of the mother country whose legs were then spread around the world" -America is basically the daughter of Great Britain, who at the time had all the power in the world. "Democracy, liberty, and justice were revolutionary code names that preceded the bubbling, bubbling, bubbling, bubbling, bubbling in the mother country's crotch." -Lol, weird visual. What came out of the "mother" was democracy, liberty, and justice=america. "What does Websters say about soul?" -The dictionary defines words, but it surely doesn't "Define" them, such as looking up soul or the meanings of "life" on it does nothing. |

hmm..I think it's about a girl who is a virgin("Into a fly"-angels wear wings and are seen as pure, virgin), one night she does drugs and/or drinks and wants to have sex/is horny(You were on fire I watched a change in you. It's like you never had wings) so he takes her home and has a one night stand with her.(I pulled off your wings) He knows that he took advantage of her-in god's eyes- but doesn't care because of the temporary satisfaction they both had (I look at the cross And I look away) Sorry if this has already been said, I just didn't go through all nine pages of comments. I think it's about a girl contemplating suicide. Basically talking herself into it. She just sees the positive side of it "bury me in satin", "bed of roses", "I'll wear my pearls". She isn't even thinking about how she will be hurting the people when she is gone "Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother, She'll know I'm safe with you" She thinks people don't really listen to her now "A penny for my thoughts, oh no, I'll sell them for a dollar They're worth so much more after I'm a goner" "Funny when your dead how people start listenin" It has a sad ending, so 1)"The sharp knife of a short life," is talking about how painful it is knowing that somebody's life was cut short by tragedy. 2)"well I've had, just enough time" is talking about how she has time to think the suicide over and 3) So put on your best boys-telling the boys to wear their suits for the funeral. |

Good hand (god) and evil hand (devil) being put into the garden (garden of eden-the garden and women both represent earth), now that both are there, women(earth) bites down her lips, in both pleasure and pain (earth is effected by the good and bad in society). Lewinsky the lady who had the scandal with bill clinton. So possibly meaning he shouldn't be with this young lady but he is comforting her saying they're scandal is "Clean" compared to Monica's. The love just like in cudi's part is dying "but all good things gotta come to an end.She let it go to her head." (enjoying the luxuraries of money but he assures her HE provided her with it all "No, that mine, 'ria."-ria is a nickname for maRIA) and THE BEST PART OF THE SONG "height of her shopping was writer's blocking me.I couldn't get my shit out anyway, I hope you die, 'ria." He is telling her to fuck off and die. So he can get his shit(music) out like "diarrhea". haha. |
