| 30 Seconds to Mars – Alibi Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This is a song of remorse. Jared regretfully wishes for an "alibi," somewhere else to be during a war that has consumed his will, his physicality and his very emotions. "Took our chance, crashed and burned," alludes to the fallen comrades that died perhaps without mercy or respect. They were thrown in without "warning sign" and now they will "never ever learn." It is the leaders giving commands who are to blame' "the quickest tongue to divide and devour." Divide is a metaphor for the opinions of a nation, of surrounding nations, of the enemy and of the soldiers themselves who are forced to fight regardless of their "truth," "love" or "desire." It is a never-ending "quest for fire" that is horrific and brings out the worst in those who suffer its despicable wrath; "...to battle is the only way we feel alive." This pain is not enough to break our subject, as it is for love, war and life... we "fell apart, but got back up again." |

| Angels and Airwaves – The Adventure Lyrics | 15 years ago |

The Adventure is ground-breakingly differently from anything Tom has been involved in previously. It marks the entrance into a new era of creativity; "...here I am, and here we go, lives waiting to begin." I honestly feel that whilst the break-up of Blink 182 was a major issue, this album and this song do not have said theme resonating through the lyrics or music. Angels and Airwaves is an escape; it is a project spear-headed my a man who felt confined and insecure within the punk-pop genre; "... four walls close me within." If anything, the themes of space and war provide Tom and the greater audience with this escape. Nothingness and an overwhelming sense of death and atrocity. Thats what we feel; "...hope has burned with time." Despite this melancholy feel, there lies promise within. Like a phoenix, "...anything's that dead shall be regrown" and "any type of love - it will be shown." This is a song of glory and promise, for the future holds great and amazing things, we have only to see it hence our "eyes are opened up with pure sunlight." |

| City and Colour – Hello, I'm In Delaware Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I believe this song details the overpowering love experienced by not just Dallas alone, but by anyone. The first verse alludes to inanimate outcomes "...driving these dark highway lines." This accentuation is evident when one destined soul is physically or emotionally displaced from the other. The urgency and desperation to be re-united with said love is emphasised with both examples of the countdown, "...only twenty more days," and "...find out in seventeen days." It is insinuated that when apart, the thoughts and feelings of the subject are dominated by the longing for their lover; "...my body aches." This song appeals to so many on a personal level, and I include myself in this number. It speaks of the difficulty faced with moving away, of giving up love for other priorities in life, and putting faith in that love; when I "see you again," neither of our "hearts will die tonight." |
