| The XX – I Dare You Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| I can't stop listening to this song. To me it sounds like even the greatest love songs make love seem like a risk. | |
| Radiohead – Myxomatosis. (Judge, Jury, & Executioner.) Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| Incredible song. | |

| Great song. Reminds me a bit of "The End" by The Doors. | |

@cmlegnax: I join everyone here in tipping my cyberhat to you & your interpretation. The reason I'm writing this is to tell you that I'm listening to this song (over & over) for the first time, it's pitch black in my room and you have made the song infinitely haunting to the point I can feel the little hairs on the back of my neck tingling because during the Spanish chorus, it sounds like someone regretfully moaning "Oh Lord" Btw, I'm Mexican and the word should've been "suelo" instead of "suele" if he is referring to himself as "tending to have" but, this being Interpol I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they knew this and are choosing to be more cryptic. Or they may have meant "suele pasar" or "tends to happen" It tends to have (happen?) I lose control I lose control in the undoing Victory does not compare to utter defeat |

Definitely about an affair she's had/having. I also agree that there's more to it than that based on the "dark, ominous tones" to quote Jason Segel in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". It sounds like he's obsessed w her, judging by his interrogation. The music sounds like he may be threatening physical harm "...all of the ways you will make it up for me" Leave it to Interpol to make a song beautiful, sexy and entirely creepy at the same time:] |

I keep going back to the economic crisis. It sounds like bankers justifying the sub-prime lending and the housing boom that created the overvaluation of real estate. Read the lyrics about not paying attention to "analysis" or "politics" Also the " full speed tilt" reference makes sense. |

All that I feel Capital ways Teach me to grieve and conspire With my age So far, I keep seeing a theme of unethical/illegal business practices and a character(s) possibly involved in white collar crime which would make sense given the age we're living in. |

I'm getting that it's about a woman making through the economic downturn because of her sugar daddy. "I was your eyes when the prophets fell" could mean the economic prophets or it could also mean "profits". In the first line he refers to the "plastic" that covers her. Credit cards?? Also, there's mention of ignoring the "protesters". He talks about "prolonging the season" which makes me think he's profiting from the current market situation probably in an unethical or unsavory manner. Side note: Does anyone else hear The Psyche Furs "Love My Way" a little bit? |

Now that you mention it, I do hear "Lovesong" a bit. Funny you mention The Cure cos I put up a post under the "Apartment Story" lyrics comparing the song (Very favorably) to "Friday, I'm in Love". Methinks the Dessners are big Robert Smith fans. Lol |

| Pearl Jam – Thin Air Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| @glorifiedg79 "wash it off.." I believe, means forget about the fear of hurting the fragile newborn in your arms. Ever seen a baby get handed to a guy and he gets this panic-stricken look? Haha it's cos we're afraid of breaking or hurting such a delicate, beautiful little creation. | |

| Double-0 9: I live your interpretation. It fits perfectly. Especially later with the part about the man that made "chemicals difficult". Sounds like Oppenheimer and Hiroshima. | |

PS: speaking of Floyd. Listen to this song then listen to "Comfortably Numb". This song makes a great sequel to "Numb". Rockstar gets hooked on drugs. "Home" can mean the career and fans he lost. Just a thought. |

I definitely see the homeless drug addict angle. Even if you don't speak English, the Floyd-y (word? Haha) vibe kinda tells you that. Plus you can hear his conversation with himself. He'd like to have a home, save up for a car "something maybe two-tone", regain his father's approval "chip off the cornerstone". Cornerstone is a great word here because he sees his dad (or parents) as solid, strong and stable. Everything he's Not. But, sadly, he realizes he's kidding himself. It's another rainy drug-addled pipe dream brought on by his "ozone" like blanket of a heroin high. He's sooo close to being normal. He can taste it. He's screaming on the inside. His drug addiction is a lot like "locked-in" syndrome. Amazing tune. Stil get the chills... |

| The National – Conversation 16 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think he's a "confident liar" because he's been socializing w the superficial women of the "scene". Starlets, models, socialites, etc. It's made him jaded and now he's with a real, down to earth girl and he's afraid he's gonna hurt her more sensitive nature while maintaining the facade with his glittery friends. "Conversation 16" could mean he's had this conversation w women before and he's thinking "Great. Here I go again having the sane issues" this is what I hear in the song. more than likely, I'm completely wrong bit in my head it's a great little mini-movie in a whole collection of mini-movies this band makes me imagine |

Does anyone else hear The Cure in this song? It's what "Friday, I'm in Love" tried to be. |

| The National – Brainy Lyrics | 15 years ago |

A lot of National songs sound like they're referring to the dark side of celebrity lifestyle. I think this character is dating (or possibly the agent) of an "It Girl". He's discovered something scandalous (sextape, anyone?) that could destroy her fledgling stardom. He's either trying to keep an eye on her to prevent her from screwing up again or, if he's a boyfriend, he's relishing in her imminent collapse. |
