"The way that song is written is, in the first half I'm basically just describing touring and kind of my relationship with God and my wife," he explains. I think most of Oberst's stuff is "up for interpretation" because that's just how he writes. So, my interpretation is that this song is about various "sad situations" like at first, the war. Next, he talks about the loss of his father or someone close to him. And it kind of gives off that "be strong" vibe. He's saying don't let it get in the way. Maybe it's even someone telling him to be strong. Just my thoughts. |
