| Neil Young – Falling Off The Face Of The Earth Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song has more meaning to me than any other Neil song. My own father was diagnosed with a terminal illness around the same time Neil lost his father. This song is Neil thanking his father for everything he has done to support his life and his career."Feel like I'm falling, falling off the face of the earth". He is saying his world will never be the same without his father being here. The prairie wind CD is a reflection of neils childhood and his dedication to family. The Heart of Gold DVD was released the week before fathersday. I believe Neil planned it that way. It was his way of paying tribute to his dad. This song makes me vary emotional. I have since lost my own father to pancreatic cancer. My world will never be the same. I thank Neil for this song. In it he expresses the same message I gave my own father. I was able to retire and spend the last few years of my fathers life with him and helping with his care. I must now back away from tear stained keyboard. Thank you Neil !!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| I believe that this song is about finding your soulmate as you drift through life. Once you realize that you find your true soulmate you can experience the most wonderful thing that life has to offer "creating life with the birth off a child". Being happy with the choices you have made. He is reminding us all life goes by so quickly "this old world keeps spinning round, it's a wonder tall trees aren't laying down". "There comes a time", don't miss it. | |

I agree With the past present and future theory and how over time humans have made our planet uninhabital. In the last verse we are forced to leave our planet behind do to the damage that we have caused. Only a chosen few are able to leave because there are not enough silver space ships to carry everyone. The question is are the space ships ours or from another planet willing to help us to reseed our species in the universe. He uses the dream reference because he hopes this not reality but only a dream. As for all of you who think Neils songs are about drugs. If you truely listen you will realize that the many songs that have drug references are "ANTI" Drug referces. The needle and the damage done should need no explination, Down by the river, about an addicts everyday struggle with addiction, Tonights the night " he looses one of his best friends Bruce Barry to an overdose". Hey Hey My My, and My My Hey Hey about how an artists music has lifted him/her to a level of success and wealth and how drugs can take it all away, "Has your band begun to rust". When the drugs have destroyed your talent "Once your gone, you can't come back". Even in "Thrashers" He says his friends from CSNY were lost in rock formations (cocaine) and became park bench mutations. Their talent was beginning to rust. He reached out and tried to help them but he evetualy had to leave them behind. Sorry to all of you who think Neil is the addict. |

| I can't beleive that anyone could think that Neil would write a song about murder or killing a girlfriend. Neil is all about peace and love. Anti war and non violence is the theme of many of neils songs. Many of his songs are anti drug songs. This song is about the harsh reality of addiction. "The needle and the damage done." In tonights the night, Bruce Berry "died out on the main line", He OD'd. A talented man lost to us all to addiction. | |

I think this song is about truely being happy with your life and the love you have for you family. All couples have hard times and disagrements, but if the love is real like he says "true love conqours all". He is very happy with his life with Peggy and his children. Neil has much pride for his family. As time has crept up on Neil and the grey has started to show he knows that his relationship with his family is truely wonderful. He is telling us all that life goes by fast and don't let the hard times get in the way. "True love conquors all" |

I think this song is about the transition of ones youth into an adult. Neil wrote this song when he was 19. Reflecting on his youth and comming to the realization that the days of youth are quickly slipping away. The uncertainty of what life has instore for us all, not really sure if we are ready to accept the reality of being an adult. I believe that sugar mountian was the name of a candy store that he frequented as child. Hey we all have to grow up sometime. I'm 51 and still not ready. |

I believe this song is about an addicts everyday struggle with life and his addiction. In this case the love is heroin. He is wanting to face the day without his fix so he has hidden it, but the power of addiction is to strong. He gives in, He gets his love out from where he has hidden it. With his addiction satisfied he can escape the realities of life. She can take him over the rainbow and together they can get away. His baby is the needle filled with heroin. The river is the vein. Shot her dead refers to emptying the entire contents in his arm. Now there is along jam as the heroin takes hold and he doesn't have to cope with the struggles of the day. The verse repeats because after his high is over he still faces the same struggles and is doomed to repeat the satisfaction of his addiction. |
