This song is about settling with the person you're with. After being with someone for 10 years and back on the dating scene this song explains my thoughts pretty well. Sometimes you're in a relationship because you just don't want to feel alone. |

To me hes talking about a breakup. The line "And I remember when I knew that you'd be leaving" and "I still remember how the distance tricked us And led us helpless by the wrist into a pit to be devoured" Sounds like they tried to make a long distance relationship work but, as often times happens, it does not. At the end of the song it sounds like he's thinking about her and feeling angry about her leaving but he still tried to hold on to the good/love he had for her. hence the line "So dear, no matter how we part I hold you sweetly in my head". You can either be angry and hateful after a breakup or hold on to the good and keep an open heart. |
