I agree that it follows much of the same themes, but watching the video, I thought more about A Clockwork Orange, which talks about actual good vs forced (educated) good, and if argues that even ultra-evil attitude is better than forced and inhuman good. In the video this is shown when they raze the school building, therefore breaking the institution that breaks their liberty. The brick in the wall phrase I think could refer to 1984 too, since every other person in the society just restrains the protagonist from breaking free. |

When I saw the comments on nature and humans taking from earth I thought it was absurd, but the more and more I do come into the song (and the video), I realize it might be true. First of all, as the majority has said, you have to "control yourself, take only what you need" from Earth and the natural resource. The necessity of the child (that, "daddy, I need you) shows us that we cannot be that selfish in our acts, not thinking about the future generation. Kids = future generation... my point. Then, for the video there are specific points- people he doesn't know are monstrous to him, and they are adults who have corrupted Earth (too ambiguous, I know). Then, a really good point for me is how the fish in the sea are thrown away dead by the boat, man-made again. Then, remember that dancing pig? You see it being replaced by pork, hamburgers, and pizza. Another observation I made is that if you notice while on the car, the kid's window is full of trees and park-like scenarios, but when the scene shifts to the mother, residential areas are the only things seen. Finally, in the part when the kids runs off, the only place where he finds peace is not in the urban areas, but near many plants. My interpretation, anyway. |
