This is a song about young, intense boys who grow up to be old, lonely burnt-out addicts. The end. |

| The Blood Brothers – Peacock Skeleton with Crooked Feathers Lyrics | 15 years ago |

THIS SONG IS VERY OBVIOUSLY ABOUT THE POST-HARDCORE SCENE. You were all there, in one capacity or another. Peacocks are proud and strut around and puff their feathers out. So did most of the boys screaming in the 2000-2004 scene. The Blood Brothers were on acid, laughing their asses off at the whole ridiculous spectacle. I wish all their fans had been as saavy. The peacocks represent a million boys with angular haircuts, singing all the details of whatever "righteous" unpleasantness they find relevant, as the crowd eats it up. - "I just wanna know what his blood tasted like. Was it like sugar or vinegar or whiskey or dirt?" "If the brick YOU THROW puts a bullet in your skull and a police boot lands atop your gaping jaw?" - Shows the absurdity and pointlessness of "political" punk/post-hardcore - a sentiment which audibly "whooshed" over most of the heads posting on this page. "There's a peacock on your shoulder, pole-dancing round your neck, reciting the book of revelations"... "Which peacock is priest"... LOTS of references about how, once the sound + aesthetic became popular, Christian evangelists hijacked the energy and desperation of the post-hardcore movement, and a thousand indistinguishable bands popped up to spread THAT message alongside the thoughts of the original innovators of the sound. "So who do you love? Who do you trust? Your friends take a match to your front lawn. A panicked face makes the peacock proud." Lyrically elegant. The dynamic of a music scene full of screaming teenagers + young adults has never been described so beautifully and succinctly. "Who do you kill when your senator drags out your first born?" Who is the enemy, really? Is all the screaming rallying anyone up for a reason? What are we going to do with all this anger? Nothing, and the system rolls along as always. A panicked face makes the peacock proud. |

| The Blood Brothers – I Know Where the Canaries and Crows Go Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Canaries and Crows SING. I always understood this song to be a metaphor lamenting the brief spotlight-time of singers in bands. We all look up to them, hear their words, relate, and then they disappear. Desperate, tragic "crows", and beautiful, sweetly-singing "canaries". They express a narrow range of feelings, but they do it very well - and then they flare out and die. |

| The Blood Brothers – God Bless You, Blood Thirsty Zeppelins Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
i interpret this song as a profound statement on male/female gender relations in a deluded, consumerist, disposable society. w/ the zeppelin as a metaphor for pregnancy. "yeah she bought the story + there's a motel nearby now show me your surrender face baby" (someone attempting to have an affair) "unfortunately this Marilyn Monroe is a secret zeppelin, set on a crash course with your cumshot museum with the blowjob bunny mansion" (...affairs generally turn out badly, because no woman is satisfied being the 'other woman' and will eventually want monogamy, a baby, etc, ruining your playboy fantasies) if you think this song is about politics... wow... you really missed the point broski |
