Goodness! When I first heard this song on Pandora..I was thrilled! It reminded me completely, of the man I was and am in Love with! He had all the right intentions, and was an extraordinary man, but did not have the strength within to be the person he had the potential to be. And I foolishly played the role of the person that could somehow revive him, and bring his greatness to fruition! I bent over backwards trying to be his best friend and confidante! But in the end, no matter how hard I labored, I can't help this fool if HE cannot help himself!! The realest thing she ever wrote! We Love Amy for all she does! |

For me, the title struck me as a powerful statement: He can only hold me, for so long. A statement perhaps, made by a woman who is still vividly in touch with who she is and recognizes her worth, although she is in a relationship with a man that seems to be stripping her life energy from her. She is in the grips of him, but she is plagued with an urgency that is telling her she has much within herself that remains intact, even in the midst of loving someone who may not return or understand the same love she offers him. I used to listen to this song all the time, when I was with my ex-fiance, every time he used to drain me of my energy, my mojo, my happiness, I used to feel so strongly that I was going to leave him, but could not take the first step. Yet, I always knew, that I was strong and could look forward to better days. |
