"Rivers turn to wood" is a lyric a lot of people don't see a lot of sense in, often saying it was probably "rivers turn to mud," and Ozzy made a mistake in the studio.
I like the official lyric more. While it doesn't really apply to real-world logic, I thought they may have been going for an alchemical reference - specifically, the Chinese "5 elements," which includes fire, earth, metal, water and wood, in that order. |

The final line of the song likely refers not to the first Robocop director, the currently living Paul Verhoeven, but rather Irvin Kershner who actually directed both the second Robocop film and the second Star Wars film. |

Yeah, like others I though the lyrics were "Go drill your deserts" instead of "Tell your classes" instead. In fact I took a heavy environmental message with this one; the rain killing us all could be taken as "acid rain."
I also thought the line "but when we kill it all" was followed by "the air was all we had;" as though the singer wants everything the modern man has done torn down so that when they "start over" all they would need is the air. |
